You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house.
- Haggai 1:9-
The Lord asked the people for one thing: to remain faithful in the work, Israel was called to pray, worship, and labor faithfully. Sunday, we continue The Story chapter 19, “The Return Home.” God’s people are called back to rebuild the temple. The temple is more than just a building, it is a picture of God’s desire to dwell with his people. God’s people start off strongly, rebuilding the temple. But sadly, they became distracted by their own homes and forgot about God. We get distracted too. The busyness and chaos of life cloud our relationship with God. We get too busy building our homes and forget about the Lord who does not want his people distracted from him. That is what sin does - it distracts us from the Lord.
Think about it …
When we are consumed with something we want, and we are grouchy because we don’t have it, we are coveting… Distracted
When we are consumed with how we are going to pay bills …. Distracted
When we are consumed with other people’s stuff …. Distracted
When we are consumed with schedules and obligations other than God …. Distracted
When we are consumed with our children and focus on them more than on God … Distracted
When we are distracted, we lose focus on the One who gave us everything in the first place. Jesus says, “See first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
See you Sunday as we continue The Story chapter 19, I can’t wait!
PRAYER: Lord deliver me from distraction. Help me to focus on you. AMEN

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
