"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?

-John 11:25-

“Do you believe this?”

In John chapter 11, Jesus was confronted by a pair of grieving sisters, one named Martha, and the other named Mary.

When Martha approaches Jesus in her grief, He speaks with her and tells her that He is the resurrection and the life. He then asks her a question, THE question, “Do you believe this?”

"Yes, Lord," she replied, "I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world." (v.27)

The other sister, Mary falls at the feet of Jesus, and says to him,

“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (v.32)

Both women give incredible statements of devotion, honesty, and ultimate faith in WHO Jesus is and what he can do!!! Even in her honest grieving, Mary believes.  We can do the same.  There is a powerful lesson here - our sadness, disappointment, frustration, and grief do not diminish who Jesus is and what he offers.  He tells us to come to him with how we feel, and he comes to us with his promise.

Jesus made it abundantly clear, that eternal life is given to all who believe. Just moments later Martha and Mary witness their just-dead brother walk out of the tomb still covered in rags.  Jesus told Lazarus to come out of the tomb and he did. Then, just days later, Jesus himself died too, but on the third day, he rose from the dead, proving his powerful promise was true.  “I AM the resurrection and the life.”

Ready for the best part?  Jesus’  promise was not just for Martha and Mary, Jesus’ promise is for you today.

Do you believe this?

See you Sunday- I can’t wait!

Pastor Austin

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
