I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

-John 10:9-

“There is only one way in.”

Those words are rarely heard today. Fire codes, safety codes, and accessibility laws all require multiple gates or doors to protect people and include all people; as it should be.

Jesus included all people in his invitation, but he also said there is only one single way to be saved. Perhaps the world’s problem with Jesus’ statement is exclusivity. We live in a fuzzy slipper world that just wants to be comfortable, it is not soothing to most ears to hear there is only one way, because we want to make our own decisions on what is right and what is wrong- according to what we think. But, the turth is there is only way way, and that is exactly what our Lord Jesus said. He said HE is the threshold for who gets in and who he leads out. He protects, he guides, and he provides a safe, quiet place to rest.

“Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

-John 10:7-10

Jesus came to save the world, which is incredibly inclusive. But following Jesus EXCLUSIVELY is the only way, anything else is universalism and ignores Jesus' words. Our Lord makes it abundantly clear on the tail end of his wonderful John 3:16 statement that “whoever believes in him has eternal life.” Jesus said,

“Whoever believes in him (Jesus), is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only son.”

-John 3:18

Jesus protects us -He is the single door of protection from Satan’s schemes. Jesus provides the way to eternal safety - He is the gateway to eternal life, and guess what? We believe! Rest in his promised eternal protection today.

See you Sunday- I can’t wait!

Pastor Austin

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
