My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

John 15:12

The media loves to zoom into the relationships and romances of those hallowed in Hollywood's studios. You can’t blame the press, they know from experience all the drama sells! They sell subscriptions to magazines, clicks on Google, followers on Instagram, and likes on YouTube. One actress dates a rock star, while another marries a basketball player. One actor dates a swimsuit model, while another dumps his wife for his costar. The cycle of Hollywood drama goes round and round and people love it. The bottom line, red-carpet romantic rivalries sell.

The hysterical irony is that those same Hollywood actors and actresses tell their viewers what love should look like. They tell you what clothes you should love, what shoes you should love, what cars you should love, and what relationship love is according to their ‘wisdom.’ The problem is, those loves don’t last. We live in a world of temporary love.

But Jesus offers something different. Jesus described the kind of love he bestows upon the people He loves as the same love his father bestows on him in the wonderful mystery of the Divine Trinity. This love is agape love, love that flows from the One who is love, and it is much more than we can begin to imagine! God’s love isn’t measured or displayed in followers, or clicks, or even trophies. God’s love is displayed on the cross, where His love was on display for all to see. God’s love never leaves us and never fades or diminishes. God’s love is lasting.

Remarkably, our loving Lord says that is how we are to love others too. We can’t do it on our own but Jesus’ love flows through us into a world craving love that lasts.

It’s time to love.

Sunday we begin a new sermon series “Loved & Sent.” We will marvel at the love our Lord bestows upon us, and how he sends us out with a purpose. I can’t wait!

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Austin

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
