Jesus said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

-John 2:19

“PROTECT THIS HOUSE”

There is something special about a home.   A tent or townhouse, manor or mansion, a dwelling is a special place and thus it must be protected.   The belongings in our homes are protected by roofs, walls, and windows.  Our homes are protected by alarms, cameras, and locked doors to keep intruders out.

But Jesus doesn’t need alarms, cameras, locks, roofs, or windows to protect His house.  Jesus protects His house with actions and promises.  When Jesus sees God’s temple is disrespected he goes into action and clears it with a whip of cords.  Jesus also declares that when the temple is destroyed he will raise it up in three days.  But Jesus was not talking about the building, he was talking about himself.  Sure enough, Jesus, the temple of God, was crucified, died, and buried.  And just as promised, he rose from the dead on the third day, and sure enough, his promises were indeed fulfilled.  Through him, we have full protection.

The season of Lent is a time of reflection and repentance.  We are sinners who come to our loving Lord and say, “I am sorry.”  But Lent cannot be viewed apart from the temple that was raised for us.  The temple was not destroyed, and in Him, neither are we.

See you Sunday, I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
