For if we have been united with him in a death like his,
we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
“You are dead.”
That’s essentially what the apostle Paul said in the sixth chapter of Romans. We cannot live in Christ unless we die to ourselves. Christ died for us, we know that and our sins are buried with him. “Sure thing, sounds like a plan!” We respond in our thoughts, but if we are honest, it doesn’t take long for us to feel vulnerable so we try to take back control. In Christ, we are forgiven, renewed, free, and alive. But that freedom is scary so we crawl back into the tomb, and gather up our sins, guilt, and shame. We don’t want to die to ourselves. But the Apostle Paul says,
Count yourselves dead to sin but alive in Christ. (Romans 6:5)
You are no longer enslaved to sin. In your baptism, you are raised to life with Christ who frees you from the slavery of sin to live a resurrected life.
God wants sinners dead so that he can raise them up—create them anew—to be his children again. He gets a real kick out of reclaiming lost coins and lost sheep.
-Rev. Robert Kolb
As fellow believers, we die to ourselves and live under our Lord’s reign and rule of grace.
Time to live.
See you Sunday- I can’t wait!
