“Quiet! Be still!”
Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
-Mark 4:39-
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” -Mark 4:35-41
I wish I could have seen the disciple’s faces that day on the sea—sopping wet hair, dripping beards, and wide open eyes.
“Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” -Mark 4:38
Facing a storm and certain death, the fumbling fisherman called on Jesus.
Will you?
You might not be bobbing like a cork in a storm-tossed sea, but you might be in the middle of your own storm. I am not sure what winds of change, or waves of pain are drowning you today but God does. He knows your struggles and frustrations. Your Lord sees your anxieties and your fears.
After the disciples cried out in fear, Jesus spoke to the storm and it listened. In fact, the wind and the waves stopped instantly. Jesus then turned his attention from the storm to his followers.
“Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” -Mark 4:30
Jesus speaks to us today too. He reminds us that not only did he defeat a life-threatening storm, but he also defeated the eternal consequences of our life-threatening sin. Jesus defeated Satan and eternal death forever on the cross, Jesus took care of it! Our Lord wants us to trust him not only with eternity but also in our day-in-day-out storms.
Today, trust in Christ Jesus our Lord, the Storm Stopper! God Bless your week knowing Jesus is in your boat too.

Give to the winds thy fears;
hope, and be undismayed:
God hears die size and counts by Tears;
God shall life up they head.
Through waves and clouds and storms
His power will clear thy way:
Wait thou His time; the darkest night
Shall end in brightest day.
Put thou thy trust in God (v.3,4); Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676 ; Translator: John Wesley, 1703-1791 ; Tune: DONCASTER
