“I am the way and the truth and the life.”
-Jesus
Tucked in a lush mountain valley on the western slope of Colorado is the small hamlet of Eagle. Sitting in the shadow of ritzy Vail, Eagle holds its own as a sportsman’s paradise. Trails for hikers and bikers ascend from the valley floor into the nearby hills. Rivers and streams flow from their once snowy slumber above to the valley below providing thrilling rides for kayakers, and sport for frustrated fishermen. Golfers can be seen concentrating one second and cursing the next. Children are playing in the park, and joggers are running the trails.
But the Town of Eagle has something else, something the tourism board probably doesn’t like to advertise - roundabouts! Leave the Interstate at exit 147 and tourists are immediately greeted with a plethora of traffic-controlling-circular intersections. I love them; others hate them.
Roundabouts eliminate the need for traffic lights and greatly reduce fatal accidents. But if you don’t know how the roundabout works you might end up going the wrong way. Vehicles in the circular race track have the right-a-way, and you enter when no other traffic is coming. You always turn right (as the sign indicates) and you follow the circle until your desired exit.
Recently, I was driving home, when a small sedan (ignoring the one-way sign) turned left into the circle of traffic and was heading the wrong way. Instead of quickly traveling in reverse, the driver panicked and stopped in the middle of the roundabout! Frustrated and confused, the lost driver was frozen in fear so he just stopped. That’s what happened to the disciples in John chapter fourteen. Jesus is comforting his disciples,
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Thomas on behalf of all of them said to Jesus,
“Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus answered,
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
The lost disciples thought they knew the way things were supposed to go. Our world does the same. People are struggling to find the way, so in frustration and confusion, everyone travels in the direction they think is the correct way, until they realize their way isn’t working. School districts strive to seek the way and the truth, and governments create special task forces to tackle the problems, but the problems only grow, and the confusion only increases. Frustrated and confused, they stop like a tourist driving the wrong way in a roundabout in Eagle, still looking for direction and truth in all the wrong places. We do the same.
But I have really good news! Jesus doesn’t leave us frustrated and confused sitting in the middle of the roundabout of life. Instead, Jesus gives us direction, he gives us assurance, and he even gives us eternal life. So do not let your hearts be troubled, Jesus is for you, and He is the way, the truth, and the life!
Sunday, we celebrate our confirmation class of 2023 and continue our series The Tomb is Still Empty. I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Meet Susan Flock!
Susan is our Middle School Youth volunteer at Grace Fellowship and kids of all ages absolutely LOVE her! She is known as Aunt Susan to the Gross, Haffele, and Kraft kids as she has known them all since they were little and she spoils them with treats, gifts, and time cheering them on at their extracurricular activities. She has a heart for Jesus and loves to help in MANY ways! If you haven't met her yet, be sure to say hello!
Susan's family, her parents Barbara and Edward, split time between Naperville, Illinois, and Nokomis, Florida. She has a sister, Sarah, and brother-in-law, John, and twin nieces, Emma and Annabelle that live in Chicago.
How long have you lived in the valley?
I moved to Louisville, Colorado in 2001 from Tuscaloosa, AL. Roll Tide!! I moved up to Eagle County in 2003.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love spending time at my surrogate kiddos' sporting events and hiking with my dogs. During college football season I love cheering on Alabama football.
Share something fun about yourself that we might not already know.
Jeremy Gross, Pastor Austin, and I flipped homes together for many years. I now have a pretty keen ear for flooding and leaks in places and am good at getting into tight spaces in attics.
