“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

This past week I called Colorado Parks and Wildlife. I have had issues for two years renewing my fishing license and booking campsites, and I have tried and tried on their website to figure out my login, but continued to be unsuccessful. I had the password in my phone's password keeper, but that didn’t work. I tried the new password reset button, but didn’t get an email. Finally, filled with apprehension and the dread of waiting forever, I placed the call. I have called before and the result always seemed to be the same - long waits and elevator music. But this time was different. When I called, an automated message welcomed me and gave me numerical options. I chose one of the options, which of course led me to another automated message. But in the middle of my eye-roll, I heard wonderful news and I could barely believe my ears.

“You … have … zero callers ahead of you.”

Zero! Zero callers! I couldn’t believe it! A nice lady answered immediately and was very helpful. She changed the email linked to my account, updated all of my information, and told me I was now ready to book camping adventures. What a pleasure to not have to wait.

Our Lord NEVER makes us wait to talk to Him. The Apostle Paul states, “Pray without ceasing.” “Pray about everything.” (Phi 4:6-7) John tells us God always hears us. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14) In other words, talk to God all day, every day, whenever you want to! No automated message, no buttons to push, no number to take. This is hard for us to believe since we live in a take-your-turn world. But God, in Christ, came to you and lives in you, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, comforts all day, every day, whenever you want. And if you are filled with apprehension and consumed with dread, God already knows and takes care of that too!

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”
Romans 8:26-27

Today, when you pray, don’t stress about it - there is no line or wait time. In fact, Jesus is waiting for you to talk to Him right now - just you and the Savior of the world. Zero callers ahead of you.

Pray away, enjoy your talk with God, and may His peace rule in your hearts today.

See ya Sunday - I can't wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
