Grace Episcopal Church                                                          December 2016
As we look with anticipation to the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, I invite you this season to take time to reflect on how your faith has enriched your life. Typically, this time of year is full of things to do, places to go, and people to see. Those are all special and I love the joy that these things can bring to my life. What a gift to meet with my friends over coffee, or shop for something special for my kids, or bake our favorite cookies to eat while we put up the Christmas tree. This time of year brings us together.

That sense of community is made even more special when it is centered on our faith and grounded in the coming of Christ, when we not only spend time together but allow that time to be a time of thanksgiving and praise. This year, I invite you to find opportunities for reflection on how your Christian faith has shaped your life. How has the example of Jesus - an unlikely king, a humble servant, a brave advocate, and a grounded spiritual teacher, formed you as a person of faith? How do you find moments to serve, learn, worship, give and grow?

Our Advent schedule is full this year! I hope you take time to explore Morning Prayer on Wednesdays or read a special Advent devotional. Help us hang the greens and decorate cookies. Commit to coming each Sunday and see how the season might unfold anew for you. Make this season a time for spiritual renewal and growth. May you be truly blessed by friends and family, by this church, and by the anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ.

As we approach a new year, we ask that you prayerfully consider your gifts of time, talent, and financial resources for 2017. We have so much to look forward to as a congregation but we need your help to create, sustain, and grow our worship, education, and outreach opportunities. Now more than ever, your contributions can make a tremendous impact on the life our church and community. December 4th is Commitment Sunday. Please bring your completed pledge cards to the 10:00am service where we will bless the gifts of this congregation to the glory and service of Jesus Christ.

Advent is a time for joy and it's also one of the best times of year to come together as a family. You may find yourself reflecting more than usual about what matters most in your life. As parents, we consider the values and beliefs we want to teach our children. We consider the example we set, the influence of community, and the support of church to help build a strong foundation for their future. Christian education is an integral part of this formation.

On Sunday, December 4th, directly after the 10:00am worship service, we will have a parents' roundtable in the Parish Hall to DREAM BIG and brainstorm the needs of our families and how Grace Church can be a partner in leading the way for the faith formation of our children. All families of young people through high school are welcome!

Help us decorate the church with a poinsettia in honor or in memorium of the people who hold a special place in your life. Orders are due no later than December 18th. Poinsettias are $10 each. Order forms will be in the narthex and may be placed in Cindy's mailbox  outside of the church office.
