Directory Photos
First Sundays bring not only fine food but an opportunity to preserve or update your likeness for Grace's online directory. If you'd like to have your photo made or refreshed for the directory, look for Jim Milburn after whichever service you attend. He will have his camera at hand and will be glad to take your picture.
Pre-Convention Meetings
Diocesan Convention is coming up fast; interested parishioners who are planning to visit the convention or those who are just interested in finding out more are also welcome – all are invited to participate! Though the local meeting at St. Paul’s on January 27 (see the end of the list) would likely be the most convenient, you are welcome at any of the gatherings should travel or a case of the ‘look-arounds’ send you into other territories.
All meetings are scheduled 3-5 pm.

Death of The Rev. Sam Payne
Though many of you will have learned of this through social media or the local news, it would be remiss of any Episcopal news letter to take no notice of the death of the Rev. Samuel Payne.
Sam was called to the priesthood while a parishioner at St. Peter's, Chattanooga. He then served as a priest at St. Peter's; Christ Church, Chattanooga, and St. Paul's, Chattanooga. He also served as a supply priest at churches throughout the diocese. Chattanoogans also remember him as a lawyer and a circuit court judge.
Visitations are scheduled for Friday, January 11, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday, January 12, 1:00 pm – 3:00 p.m., with the service following at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 848 Ashland Terrace, 37415.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CADAS, YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, Episcopal Relief & Development, or Metropolitan Ministries (MetMin).
St. Nicholas School Tours
Most of Grace’s parishioners have heard of St. Nicholas School but may not be aware that it was founded by Grace Church and was for many years located in the church itself, with classes meeting on the second and third floors and chapel held daily in the Nave. It has long provided an extraordinary education for Pre-K through 5 th grade, and Grace is in the process of reviving a scholarship for a parish child who attends the school.
If you have a child of the appropriate age and are considering sending a child to St. Nicholas School, you are invited to schedule a visitation and tour on these dates: January 10, 17, 24, 31; February 7; March 14. Tours begin at 8:25 a.m. and run about 90 minutes, beginning with the chapel and including a visit with the head of school and tour classrooms. These appointments are for parents ONLY; your child will be invited to visit at a later date. To schedule a tour, please call (423)899-1999.
If your child is Pre-K or K, applications to the Early Learning Center for the 2019-2020 year are due by February 13, 2019.
For more information, contact Cori Hardesty Hasden, Admissions Director, at (423)899-1999.
