News so good we have to share!

This past week your Council and Stewardship Committee members began to complete their Commitment Cards.  So far we have received 13 commitments, for a combined commitment of $182,705.00!

As you begin to discern your commitment for 2023, we hope you will join the generosity of these leaders.

This Sunday, Oct 23, we will be offering our commitments to God during worship. Please bring the Commitment Card you received in the mail (if you forget it, there will be extra in the pews.)

Seniors@Grace
Seniors@Grace will meet THIS Thursday in the Fellowship Hall for Oktoberfest! In addition to a traditional German lunch we are adding a Halloween component. Please bring a picture that shows you in your favorite Halloween costume. Any year photo will work but please try to find the oldest one you can find.  If you never got to have a Halloween costume just bring something from your childhood. We gather at 11:30 am with lunch at noon. If you have any questions please contact Annie Laurie Wheat at (803) 517-0626 or wheatannielaurie@gmail.com

Also mark your calendar for Thursday November 10th. We have reservations at Luigi and Sons for lunch. And keep Thursday December 8th open for our annual Christmas party.
BLOOD DRIVE
THIS SUNDAY, OCT. 23
9am - 1 pm

This is a blood & platelet drive. Platelets are used primarily by patients going through chemo and are in BIG demand. The process takes longer but is easier on the body. People can choose to donate whole blood, double red cells or platelets. You can choose that specific appointment or make a regular appointment and decide at the drive.

Grace will be hosting Family Promise guests October 30 - November 6!
We need YOUR help to make this a success.
 
Your time and effort given to host Family Promise make a concrete difference in the lives of our guests. Creating a safe and welcoming home for a week is a blessing, and we are grateful for your participation!

Volunteer opportunities include:
 
-Sunday, Oct. 30, 11 am - four volunteers are needed for about an hour to transform Sunday School rooms into bedrooms for families for the week; tasks include moving tables & chairs, inflating mattresses, making beds, putting down rugs, etc.
 
-At 6 pm every night (except Tuesday) a meal is needed for up to 15 people and Grace guests; two or three people are asked to plan, prepare and serve the meal, cooking offsite or in Grace’s kitchen. Volunteers and their families are encouraged to be present and eat with our guests. Beverages and ice cream along with serving/eating utensils, plates, cups, napkins, etc. are furnished by the church.
 
-From 6-8 pm each night (except Tuesday) one or two volunteers are needed as evening hosts to eat dinner with the families and stay to visit, play games, walk around the block, watch TV, etc.
 
-Beginning at 8 pm Sunday through Saturday, two volunteers (one female and one male) are needed to be a presence at the church until 7 a.m. the next morning. Air mattresses are supplied and volunteers are housed in separate classrooms.
 
-Sunday Nov. 6 at 7:30 am, three people are needed to prepare classrooms for Sunday School.
 
-Following Nov. 6 one or two volunteers are needed to launder church-owned bed linens for use the next time we host Family Promise.

Race & Reconciliation in Rock Hill
Join us on Thursday, October 27 at 7pm at the Ernest G. Brown Women's and Pediatric Center, for a presentation on Agitators and Heroines: Black Women and the Charleston Hospital Workers' Campaign. Guest speaker is Dr. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight, Asst. Professor of History and African American Studies at Winthrop University. Click HERE for more information.
Fall Festival & Trunk-or-Treat
Grace Youth Ministry will be hosting our Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat event on October 30th from 4-6pm! Everyone is invited!

We will have games and crafts starting at 4pm, then we'll move to a costume contest, Trunk-or-Treating, and dinner together, ending by 6pm.

Trunk-or-Treat involves decorating our car trunks and handing out candy - an all-ages event!

If you'd like to host a trunk for Trunk or Treat, we'd love to have you! Please sign up HERE.

If you plan to join us for the Fall Festival, please sign up HERE so we can plan for you!

We are also inviting candy donations from the congregation to ensure our games and trunks stay well-stocked! If you'd like to make a donation, please drop candy off in the Fellowship Hall in the marked container.

+ The Grace household who provided the match gift for Striking a Match for Burning the Mortgage: Thank you for your generosity and inspiration, which led to Grace paying off our mortgage entirely last month! Thank you for inviting us to take part in this incredible opportunity!

+ Annie-Laurie Wheat: Thank you for your leadership in the Seniors @ Grace events! You share your unending spirit of happiness and friendship to all, providing fellowship and joy to all who take part!

+ Bill Sliney: Thank you for your dedication as "Master Usher" during the many weeks of ushering solo before our worship assistant rotation returned. You go above and beyond with your commitments!

Join us for Children's Word Time!
Children's Word Time is off to an excellent start! Our 8-and-under members are having a great time worshipping together during the Word portion of service.

We need adult volunteers to help facilitate CWT!
If you'd like to spend time with our kids, showing them that their faith matters, please sign up to join us for a Sunday!

Sunday Morning Hospitality has returned, and you're invited to take part!

Sunday Morning Hospitality at Grace is going so well! Between services on Sundays, we gather for light refreshments and fellowship. Hospitality hosts make this possible by providing refreshments, setting up, and cleaning up. We have a number of Sundays that need hosts; we hope you'll consider taking part in this fellowship event!

On Sunday, November 6, we will commemorate members of Grace Lutheran Church who, in death, have joined the Church Triumphant during this year. Then, during the prayers we will name other loved ones who have died, yet remain close to our hearts.

WELCM Gatherings are starting up again and we would love your help to give our college students a home-cooked meal each Thursday night at the White House! There will be a service celebrating the life of Jack Lockwood at Grace on Saturday, November 5 at 11am. Members and friends of Grace are invited to attend the worship service.

OUTREACH UPDATES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are needed to visit with guests at the Cottage from 6:40-8:00pm on Oct. 15, 22, 29 or Nov. 5, 12. If you are interested in helping, please contact Stefany Tindale at 803.322.6570.
Biggest needs at HOPE this week:
Toilet Paper, Shampoo, Soap, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Laundry Detergent

You can drop items off in the bin located outside the church offices when you're in the building, and a volunteer will take them over to HOPE. Please only place non-perishable items in the bin!
