Grace Notes

Friday Devotional:

Psalm 90:1-8 [9-11] 12

Humans are often death-phobic, fearing suffering at the end of our earthy days. We cling to the few decades we have here as if the most wonderful experience of our lives does not wait just beyond this lifetime.

As one who has attended many deaths, I know that death, which Paul called our enemy, is also a door; God has made it not just the end of our earthy days but the beginning of life eternal. This psalm promises that the Lord is our dwelling place in all generations, on earth and beyond. We can't be separated from the love of God. No matter how we sin, fall short, turn aside, or run away, God dwells with us, ever inviting us into relationship.

May God indeed "teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart" (v.12). Wise hearts know that our safest course of action is to cling to the one who brought forth the mountains, who formed the earth and all the worlds, who from everlasting to everlasting is God. We find safety in the God who, in fact, clings to us.

Eternal One, thank you for being our safe place. Make our hearts wise as we trust only in you. Amen.

✝ Health concerns: Jeanette (sister of Pastor Nancy’s friend) surgery for brain tumor; Helen Jackson; Tami Cobb (Gail Tenbus’s daughter); Nancy and Debbie (Robin Freeman’s friends); Lewis Johnson Montana State Trooper (Robin T's relative); Miller family, and Jean (Caplinger friends); and those awaiting surgery.

✝ We continue to pray for all those in Israel and Gaza who are suffering from the war. We also pray for the people everywhere who have no place to go to escape the violence that envelops their homes. We continue to pray for peace in our world and care for all those who are suffering from natural disasters.

✝ Efrain, a neighbor of the church who is having financial difficulties, and all those who struggle with health; housing; or relationships.
