Grace Notes

Friday Devotional:

Psalm 98

In the opening scene of The Sound of Music, Maria is singing and dancing on a lush green hillside in the Austrian Alps. " The hills are alive with the sound of music!" she proclaims. Psalm 98 carries the same energy as Maria's song, and in fact, the psalmist invites all creation to sing praises at the coming of the Lord.

God's steadfast love and faithfulness are sure (v.3), and the ultimate promise of God's victory over evil is worthy of praise (v.2). God alone will judge the world with righteousness and equity (v.9).

This is good news not only for God's human creatures but for "all the earth" (v.4), for everything that God has made! What if we spent our days anticipating the "presence of the Lord" (v.9) and the fulfillment of God's promises and watching for signs of rejoicing from even the floods and the fields, the trees and the mountaintops? What if even the stars and planets are twinkling their joy? We are not alone in God's universe!

Holy God, all creation is filled with wonder and is precious in your sight. Help me to notice. Amen.

The quilting group "Operation LOVE" at Our Redeemer has been creating quilts for the Lutheran World Relief quilt ministry for many years. About 100 quilts are sent annually to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to those in need around the world.

Operation LOVE meets every Wednesday at 9:00 am in the coffee room. Anyone interested in participating in this ongoing project is encouraged to join the group at any time.

Sewing/quilting experience is not essential since there are many different ways to give assistance as needed.
