Grace Notes

Friday Devotional:

Matthew 23:34-39

Have you ever been disappointed in the behavior of someone for whom you care deeply? Their actions are especially hurtful because you expect better from them. Like Jesus, you might experience mixed emotions, though. You're angry, and yet you long to embrace your loved one and say, "That's okay. I forgive you."

In this text we can hear the anger and disappointment Jesus feels because all the prophets, sages, and scribes sent to God's chosen ones have been flogged, killed, stoned, or crucified. In fact, Jesus uses some pretty strong language in the verses before today's focus text.

Yet, we see the extravagant love of Jesus when he says, " Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!" (v.37). Tender Jesus is all about second chances... and more. Above all, Jesus loves.

Jesus, may we be open to hearing the messengers you send to us. In your name. Amen.

The quilting group "Operation LOVE" at Our Redeemer has been creating quilts for the Lutheran World Relief quilt ministry for many years. About 100 quilts are sent annually to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to those in need around the world.

Operation LOVE meets every Wednesday at 9:00 am in the coffee room. Anyone interested in participating in this ongoing project is encouraged to join the group at any time.

Sewing/quilting experience is not essential since there are many different ways to give assistance as needed.
