Friday Devotional:
Psalm 95
Churches vary widely in the kinds of music they make and how they make that music happen. In some churches, paid musicians plan worship and music. In others, volunteers take this role. Churches might have a choir or worship team-or both, or neither. Some congregations organize a children's choir. Some singers and musicians studied music in college, and some don't know how to read music at all.
Psalm 95 doesn't specify what kind of singing, music, or instrumentation is best. The psalm invites everyone to come into God's presence with thanksgiving. The psalmist urges everyone to make a joyful noise! God made the whole world, so we're encouraged to offer our praise, no matter how we sound to a professional musician.
Psalm 95 ends by reminding us to keep the ears of our hearts open for God's voice and focused on the Lord. As we listen and as we sing, we recall all that God has done for us. We grow in our trust and faith in the Lord.
Creator God, increase my faith. Let me sing your praise with my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
