Friday Devotional:
Psalm 126
My friend Pastor Timothy knows something about watering seeds of hope with tears of pain. He was months away from a PhD in theology when government persecution threatened his life. He left his wife and young children, knowing his presence put them in danger, and came to the US to seek asylum.
He knew only one person in the US, and their hospitality soon wore thin. He was at the point of despair, struggling to make a new life, when he came to live at the safe house at the refugee ministry I work with. Supportive community and God's grace gave him the strength to go on.
He's been waiting over two years for an answer in his immigration case, and each day is agonizing. He longs to be with his family and to be able to plan for their future together. In the meantime, he offers his many gifts to our community. He puts his life in God's hands, awaiting the day when, he trusts, the seeds he watered with bitter tears will bear a harvest of joy.
God, whatever my circumstances, make me brave enough to sow a seed of hope. Through Jesus, amen.
