Friday Devotional:
Psalm 138
God clearly showed up, and the psalmist poet is clearly grateful! Though we do not know the details, we know the poet is calling out to the whole universe with thanks-to the heavenly throng that surrounds the throne of God, to the nations and kings, and to the whole creation. Why? Because God answered on the day the poet called for help and increased the psalmist's strength of soul.
Have you had such a moment in your life, a time when God really showed up, when God's grace was palpable? Maybe it wasn't the kind of thing that landed your poetry in the hymnal, but with the eyes of faith, have you given testimony to others of your joyful thanks?
It is in remembering such times that God's steadfast love becomes the foundation for hope. And when times are hard and the resolution is not yet clear, when God's faithfulness seems elusive, we can recall our gratitude in the past or turn to the stories from others for reassurance.
Steadfast Love, you are our ground and song. Sustain us and call us forward to love as you have. Amen.
