Worship Style Information
Because we are still looking for a Worship Team Leader, our worship styles are going to be tweaked for the next few months. Some Sundays we will have both services be Traditional, and others we will have both services be Contemporary. This allows us to continue to offer both styles but in a way that is more efficient for our staffing and volunteers. Sept. 18 and 25 will be Traditional Sundays, with Oct. 2 being a Worship Team led Sunday. Please contact Eryn Durlam, our Director of Music, with any questions regarding this.
Ministry Fair Coming To Grace!
Stewardship time is also a time for considering how we can volunteer at Grace. Many of you have probably questioned from previous Time and Talent forms what some of the volunteer opportunities involved. You may have also not been sure who to ask to get your questions answered. You will have this opportunity after the Thursday, September 29 service and between services on October 2. The Worship Committee is sponsoring a Ministry Fair for you to find out where help is needed in all areas at Grace – from Worship to youth and more. Take a few moments after services to grab a cup of coffee and some sweets, and stop by the tables in the narthex to get your questions answered. Be ready to find out how you can easily share your time and talents at Grace at the Ministry Fair.
Register for Sunday School
Education Hour kicks off at Grace on Sunday, September 18. Education Hour includes Sunday School for 3K-5th grade students, Junior Youth Group for 6th-8th graders and HYPE for 9th-12th graders. Education Hour runs from 9:15-10:15 each Sunday. Students in 3K-5th grade should register for Sunday School HERE.

Nursery Staffed for Worship
First Sunday of the Month
We are excited to announce that we will once again staff the nursery during worship services! To begin, we will staff the nursery during the 8:00 and 10:30 services the first Sunday of the month in October, November and December. If you would like to utilize the nursery on these days, just drop off your little one and head to worship. The nursery, nursing room, changing room and family bathroom will remain open even when they are not staffed. Interested in helping to staff the nursery on these days? Sign up in the Volunteer Link in Grace Notes.
We Want to See You in Worship Just as You Are!
Nervous about bringing your family to worship because they munch on a buffet of snacks, your teenager looks like they just rolled out of bed or you haven't attended in a few years? We'll let you in on a little secret...God doesn't care! He loves you (and your family) just the way you are! If you have younger ones, we have updated our Busy Bags, hand out instruments for your child to use during the music and provide Worship Notes pre-school and elementary kids can turn in for a prize. If your older kids are less than excited to join us, try encouraging them to actively participate in the service by doing a reading, working in the multi-media booth or assisting with communion. With the start of a new school year, now is the perfect time to get back in the habit of attending worship with your family. We can't wait to see you there!

"Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” --Matthew 19:14
ALC Literacy Week 2022

Your continued support of the Adult Literacy Center has made it possible for the ALC to help so many students achieve their goals the past year. Your support has helped

  • expand ALC services in Belgium, WI,
  • several Ukrainian families start to learn English.

Join us September 19-23 to celebrate Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. Learn more at Drop a check off at Grace; mail your donation to ALC, 715 Sixth AVE, Grafton; or donate online at Generous sponsors will match your donation!

We usually have about $14,000 a year used for Action Teams at Grace.  I see Thrivent is offering a free Associate Memberships this month with no need to buy products or spend money. Associate members can do one action team per calendar year, so are covered to do two since their membership will go into 2023.
This offer expires at the end of September.
Thrivent is a not-for-profit organization which offers member benefits
Action Teams is one benefit for members - You get $250 on a Visa Debit card to do one project each calendar year as an Associate Member - around an education, service or fundraising project. You will use the site to apply for those action teams.
As it happens, they are offering the first year for free (you can drop after that if you want). This offer expires at the end of September.
Since this membership runs into 2023 you would have two projects or $500 to use. This does not require buying any products.
Let me know if you have questions and see the links below. I am available to walk you through the process should you have any questions.
The Thrivent web page says they waive the $19.95 fee for one year if done before September 30.
The link below explains more about membership benefits.
Thanks - Chris

Thursday September 29th and Sunday, October 2nd is our annual Quilt Sale. Quilts will sell for $25 (such a deal) and they are better than ever.

This sale allows us to continue quilting every Tuesday in the morning because of your donations of material, sheets and money. Without these donations we would not be able to continue this worthwhile service project especially with the rise in prices of material.  We have determined our cost for flannel used for filler is $10.50 per quilt. This does not include material used for the back and front of the quilt. Our chairperson, Donna Harms, scours the rummage sales and is a weekly attendee at Family Sharing where they know her name.  Thru the help of Thrivent with their donation every year, we have been able to continue this service project for many years. Thank you Thrivent!

Many of our quilts are donated to groups within our area such as

  • Lutheran Social Services
  • Salvation Army
  • Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge
  • Street Angels
  • The Lakota Tribe in South Dakota
  • All Peoples Church.

Lutheran World Relief has been the organization we sent our quilts to in past years, but because of Covid we could not locate a church who was sponsoring an ingathering. That may change. And it did! We will be sending some quilts to Lutheran World Relief!

This year we have created almost 300 quilts, but that number could change by the time we have our Quilt Sale. Thank you in advance for your purchase or for your monetary donation and remember to continue saving the used sheets of flannel or regular cotton in useable condition.

Members of our group are:  Rheva Darling, Jeanne Dries, Tam Duncombe, Jan Ernst, Judy Hahn, Donna Harms, Jan Hoffman, Cheryl Herboek, Jane Johnson, Diane Kiesow, Mary Mauer, Patty Nichols, Nancy Niven, Jan Reinhardt, Debbie Schloerke, Barb Wrolstadt. Thank them for their service.

Sign-Up Genius Ready for Volunteers for Worship Services in September and October

Volunteers Needed in the Technology Booth
Are you interested in helping run media for worship services at Grace? Volunteers are needed at the Sunday service (and both services in the fall) to help out in the technology booth. Training will be provided for running the PowerPoints and in other needed areas. Confirmation and high school students – this would be a great volunteer opportunity for you, too. All ages welcome. Stop by the Technology Booth before or after worship for more information or contact Dustin Lobner at if you are interested.
Quilters Always Need Sheets Including Flannel
The word is out about the wonderful quilts we make. More and more organizations locally need our quilts, not just Lutheran World Relief. So please think of us as you attend rummage sales or mention to your friends when they are getting rid of sheets in useable condition. You all know the sizes – twin flat, full flat and fitted, queen flat and fitted, king flat and fitted in cotton or cotton blend and flannel. Please no microfiber or polyester.
Again, thank you for always responding to our requests. Remember the Grace Quilters when donating for memorials. We could not continue without your help, monetary or otherwise.
