A Great Reformation

On Reformation Sunday, we reflected on the wounds carried by individuals, congregations, and nations.

Our country continues to bear wounds caused by slavery, racism, violence against Indigenous peoples, and segregation. Ignoring or rewriting this history does not bring healing. As Jesus promises, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Jesus does not bring our wounds into the light to shame us. Jesus brings them into the light so that healing can begin.

In How to Fight Racism, Jemar Tisby offers the ARC of racial justice as a practical way forward:

  • Awareness: Learn the history and listen to experiences beyond our own.
  • Relationships: Build trust, practice humility, and refuse to keep our distance.
  • Commitment: Allow what we learn to change how we speak, serve, spend, vote, and lead.

As a Reconciled in Christ congregation, we are called not only to welcome people, but also to confront bigotry and strive for racial justice. This work will not be completed by one sermon, one election, or one act of service. It is part of God’s continuing work of reforming us.

For anyone who wants to explore these practices more deeply, I recommend Tisby’s accessible and practical book, How to Fight Racism: Courageous Christianity and the Journey Toward Racial Justice.

The truth may unsettle us, and the world may shake. But God remains our refuge and strength—and the Spirit is still reforming the church for the healing of the world.

Peace, Pr. Michael

For All the Saints

Remembering those who have gone before us

On Sunday, November 1, we will celebrate All Saints Sunday, a special day when we remember and give thanks for the lives of those who have died, trusting in God's promise of resurrection and eternal life.

All Saints commemoration reminds us that we are connected through Christ to the faithful of every time and place. Even in our grief, we find hope in God's promise that one day every tear will be wiped away.

During worship, you will be invited to come forward and light a candle in memory of a loved one who has died. Together, we will remember, give thanks, and celebrate the love of God that holds us all, in life and in death.

Whether your loss is recent or many years past, we invite you to join us for this meaningful time of remembrance, gratitude, and hope.

SERVICE

500 Christmas Cards. Countless Smiles!

Help us share a little Christmas joy with our neighbors!

This Christmas season, Community of Grace has a big goal: Make 500 Christmas cards to share with our friends at local assisted living communities, including Manor Lake!

Thanks to funding from Thrivent, we'll have supplies ready for a few evenings of creativity, fellowship, and kindness. We're inviting everyone to join us—including the Scouts who meet in our building, our congregation, and friends and neighbors throughout the community (including those who come to our Trunk or Treat and our neighboring Cooper Manor friends!

Come make cards with us:

  • Wednesday, November 11 & 18, at 7:00 PM
  • (Join us for dinner, if you like at 6:00pm)
  • Sunday, November 15, following worship

No artistic talent required! Just bring a willing heart and a little Christmas cheer. We'll provide the supplies, and together we'll create cards that remind our neighbors they are remembered, valued, and loved.

500 cards might sound like a lot, but many hands make light work—and a whole lot of Christmas joy!

Invite a friend, bring the family, and help us share God's love, one Christmas card at a time.

Worship with our Neighbors
