Week of March 7, 2023

Lenten greetings to you all,

This morning I went on a nice walk at Vines Garden park. It was a perfect morning for a walk and the park is very quiet at 7 am, which is great for remembering. I often struggle to find time to add something new to my daily routine, during lent I find it necessary to make the time and I hope the weather continues to cooperate in the mornings.

We are trying some new things this year, one of these is a lay lead Wednesday service. I hope you will be able to come out and hear from a different congregation member each week as they share about Remembering. This past Wednesday service was beautiful, I might be a little biased since my husband, Brian, was the one to share.

During this time of transition we have the privilege of having Pastor Mike Bovingdon with us. Pastor Bovingdon lead worship this past Sunday and will be with us for the next two Sundays. We are looking forward to welcoming Pastor Dennis Mims as our interim Pastor and his first Sunday will be the 26th.

Lent is a time of reflection and repentance, of sacrifice and self-examination. But Lent is also a season of hope - hope in the work God is doing in the world, even in the most challenging times. Join us this Lenten season for Wednesday services at 7pm each week focusing on the theme of remembering. By remembering what God has done, we have hope and confidence of the things that God will do. God was faithful then. God will be faithful now.

Sunday morning learning

We meet at 9:45 and all youth and adults are welcome. This week we will explore a topic using a TheoEd video with discussion. Join us this Sunday!

First, TheoEd is a short hand for Theological Education Talks. It's a loose takeoff on

TED talks (Technology, Entertainment, and/or Design). They're done now through a community engagement arm of Candler School of Theology at Emory (Candler is the Methodist Seminary that Pastor Karen attended). They started in 2017 at First Presbyterian in Atlanta, who had a hankering to do a speaker series in the same vein as TED Talks. They now hold live events with 5-6 speakers and then share the recordings and the study guides. Live events have been in Atlanta and most recently Texas. The mission remains: The mission was ambitious: to assemble leading thinkers in the church and the academy to give highly-polished, no notes, “big idea” talks in 20 minutes or less. In doing so, TheoEd was designed to spark conversations that could change the way people think about God, religion, and the power of faith to shape lives and communities.

MARK Your Calendar for Sunday, March 19th!
