Dear Grace Family,

How bad do things have to get? I ask that question due to this simple fact … I often wait until I have exhausted every remedy I can imagine, exerted every effort within my power, consulted every person offering a cure, before I depend wholly and entirely on God.

Yes, I am a Christian. Yes, I pray. Yes, God has proven Himself to me countless times. Yes, I have clear evidence on the pages of the Bible of God’s strength and love. Yes, I know better.

But there are still times I wade into the problem I’m facing as if the outcome depends on me! Why don’t I trust Him from the start? Why do I believe I need to manage the crisis, pull my own weight, and then, if it’s clear I’m losing ground, turn things over to the BOSS.

It’s not that I should give up, refuse to go to the hospital, quit my job, not pay my bills, sit back and watch … I should do all I can do, but at the same time trust God all the way. The real solution to whatever I’m facing, we’re facing, is what He provides. I’m more and more convinced that’s how we are suppose to live as Christians.

Samuel called the people of God together. He called them to get rid of every idol, false power, and false hope, and trust God. Things seemed to get worse before the incredible victory. And then Samuel set up a rock. It was as a reminder, an Ebenezer, of God’s timely HELP.

I need Ebenezer’s in my life, reminders of the ways God has HELPED me. So does this church. So do You.

In Christ,

Curt McFarland
