The passion prediction and rebuke to Peter

The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the incurable wound of his suffering yet finds in God’s words the delight of his heart. When Peter doesn’t grasp Jesus’ words about suffering, Jesus tells the disciples they will find their lives in losing them. Such sacrificial love is described by Paul when he urges us to associate with the lowly and not repay evil with evil. In worship we gather as a community that we might offer ourselves for the sake of our suffering world.

Please check the coffee hour sign up sheet in the Narthex! We are in need of volunteers to host the after service coffee hour on Sundays throughout September and October.

ONE DATE STILL OPEN - God's Gifts; Our Hands

Meals on Wheels help is still needed for Tuesday, September 1st. We need two people for this day, a runner and a driver.

The two are needed from 10:30am to 12:30pm, one can sign-up as a driver and the other as a runner. Sign-up with a friend or family member and enjoy your time connecting with others. This is a great way to reach out to others in our community. The sign-up sheet is on the table in the narthex. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to reach out to me.

Join the fun and fellowship! We are hosting our conference Synod Day on October 4, 2026!

There are many opportunities for pitching in to help: 

• Set up on Thursday October 1 after food pantry
• Welcome table for registering and greeting participants
• Helping with dinner on October 4 (Set up, serving, clean up) 
• Readers during the worship services
• And any other tasks not specified 

Many hands make light and joyful work!

Grace Lutheran Game Nights, September 2026

Gather with friends and enjoy an evening together! Every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, from 6-8:00pm, a group meets for Games in the Narthex. The group gathers to enjoy each other's company and engage in card and board games. Mark your calendars!

The next dates for Game Night are Thursday, September 10th and Thursday, September 24th. If you are interested, please let Jim Fleming know. Come and join us, and feel free to bring along your favorite game!

Evensong at Emmanuel

The choir of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church will present a Choral Evensong on September 6, at 5:30 p.m. The service of Choral Evensong is rooted in deep musical tradition from seventeenth century to present day. Music at this service will span from the Baroque era to present day by American composers: Amy Beach (Preces and Responses arr. by Ardrey-Graves) and Robert Lehman (Canticles after Croft and Purcell) and British composers: Henry Walford Davies (Psalm 130), John Goss (These are they which follow the Lamb), and Simon Lole (Jesu, the very thought of thee). Emmanuel is located at 102 N. State St. in Champaign. Free parking is available at the lot at the corner of Park and State Streets.

Prayer Requests



We have two formal ways of praying for one another at Grace. One is in the Sunday morning worship service, where we pray for people by name in the Prayers of Intercession. They will also be listed in the emailed and printed versions of GraceNotes, but not in the web version. Please send prayer requests for the Sunday-morning prayers to office@glccu.org. Using GLC Facilities



Our facilities are available for use by members and by outside groups. If you would like to use any part of the facility, please fill out a Facilities Use Request, found on the web site, and contact Karen in the office to ensure that it is on the calendar, so that the space is ready for you and that you are aware of how to adjust the appropriate thermostat.
