Ninth Sunday After Pentecost

Sunday Readings

1 Kings 3:5-12

Solomon’s prayer for wisdom

Psalm 119:129-136

When your word is opened, it gives light and understanding. (Ps. 119:130)

Romans 8:26-39

Nothing can separate us from God’s love

Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

Parables of the reign of heaven

As Solomon prays for wisdom, we seek to more deeply know the treasures of faith. In today’s gospel Jesus offers everyday images that reveal to us the reign of God: a tree that becomes a sheltering home, yeast that penetrates and expands, a treasured pearl, a net that gains a great catch. Even as we seek the riches of God’s reign, the great surprise is that God’s grace finds us first!

God's Gifts; Our Hands

Meals on Wheels help is still needed for Monday, August 3rd. We need two people for this day, a runner and a driver. Additionally, we also need volunteers for Monday, August 31st and Friday, September 4th.

Two people are needed for each of the days from 10:30 am to 12:30 am., one can sign-up as a driver and the other as a runner. Sign-up with a friend or family member and enjoy your time connecting with others. This is a great way to reach out to others in our community. The sign-up sheet will be on the table in the narthex. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you for your help and support of this ministry.

Property Committee Needs Help With Outside Work This Summer

The Property Committee needs help keeping up with the gardening and weeds this season.

The committee has divided the church property into sections to make it easier to assign the tasks. Mainly, we need helpers to pick weeds and do a general clean up of the sections. And maybe spread mulch.

We appreciate it if you can donate any amount of time, even an hour or two to help us. We supply the paper yard waste bags, preen, brooms, etc. Please bring gloves and small tools you may need.

The sections are:

  • Front Entranceway - Each Friday morning: Mary Jo Erickson and Susan Monte
  • Union St (North) Side: Jim and Ruth Anderson
  • Springfield Ave (South) Side: Tina and Jeff Fehrenbacher
  • Back Side of Building (West) Side: We do not have anyone assigned yet.

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Jo Erickson, Susan Monte or Debbie Peterson. Thanks in advance.

Grace Lutheran Game Nights, August 2026

Gather with friends and enjoy an evening together! Every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, from 6-8:00pm, a group meets for Games in the Narthex. The group gathers to enjoy each other's company and engage in card and board games. Mark your calendars!

The next dates for Game Night are Thursday, August 13th and Thursday, August 27th. If you are interested, please let Jim Fleming know. Come and join us, and feel free to bring along your favorite game!

God’s Work; Our Hands – September 2026

Lutheran World Relief Kits:

The Social Ministry Committee will once again be assembling School Kits and Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. Last year the LWR School Kits we created and shipped helped children throughout the world, including Tanzania where education is one of the strongest tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. The Personal Care Kits we sent to LWR brought comfort to displaced people because of the earthquake in Turkey and tragedies in many countries, including our U.S. neighbors suffering from wildfires in California, flooding in Texas, and severe weather across the South and Midwest.

Once again, we have set an ambitious goal of 50 School Kits and 75 Personal Care Kits because the needs are great.

The Social Ministry Committee asks for financial donations to help us purchase the supplies for these kits. We will be accepting donations during July and August. Make your check out to Grace Lutheran Church with a memo: LWR Kits.

If you would prefer to purchase an item for these kits yourself, we would be happy to accept donations of 1) bath-size bars of soap 4 or 5 oz in original wrapping or 2) adult-size toothbrushes in original wrapping. These donations can be placed in the plastic tub by the main church entrance, marked “LWR Kit Supplies.” Please make your donations by Labor Day.

God’s Work; Our Hands Sunday on September 13

Mark this day on your calendar because this is when the Social Ministry Committee will be asking for your help in putting the LWR kits together.

Thank you for your continued participation and generosity,

Members of the Social Ministry Committee

Prayer Requests

We have two formal ways of praying for one another at Grace. One is in the Sunday morning worship service, where we pray for people by name in the Prayers of Intercession. They will also be listed in the emailed and printed versions of GraceNotes, but not in the web version. Please send prayer requests for the Sunday-morning prayers to office@glccu.org. You may also submit prayer requests on our website at https://glccu.org/prayer-requests/.

Using GLC Facilities

Our facilities are available for use by members and by outside groups. If you would like to use any part of the facility, please fill out a Facilities Use Request, found on the web site, and contact Karen in the office to ensure that it is on the calendar, so that the space is ready for you and that you are aware of how to adjust the appropriate thermostat.
