Though Jesus was a devout Jew who practiced his faith, he was criticized for eating with tax collectors and sinners—the religiously nonobservant. Jesus criticizes the self-righteous and reminds us that mercy is to be at the heart of our religious practices. God continues to be made known in those on the margins of society, like Matthew the tax collector and the hemorrhaging woman. As we gather each Lord’s day we receive the healing that makes us well and sends us forth to be signs of God’s mercy for the world.

Sunday Coffee Hour Hosts

Adult Sunday School



Ordinary time is when we typically get reading that include Jesus’ parables. So, now is a good time to have a closer look at them in their original context in order to appreciate what they might be saying to us today.

For the next 5 weeks we’ll be using a study series connected to Amy Jill Levine’s provocative (in a good way) book, Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi.

Join us in the Hoffmeister Room at 11:00 after Coffee Hour.

Grace Book Club Reminder

How We Learn to Be Brave: Decisive Moments in Life and Faith

We will discuss the book on Tuesday June 23, 2026, at 6 PM at a new location: the Garden Pavilion at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana (enter via Race Street south of Clark-Lindsey Village). This shelter has nearby parking, sidewalk access, and restrooms. Feel free to bring a folding chair if you would prefer that to a picnic table. Also, please bring your own sack supper. Beverages and a light dessert will be provided. We hope you will join us!

Grace Lutheran Game Nights, June 2026

Gather with friends and enjoy an evening together! Every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month, from 6-8:00pm, a group meets for Games in the Narthex. The group gathers to enjoy each other's company and engage in card and board games. Mark your calendars!

Prayer Requests



We have two formal ways of praying for one another at Grace. One is in the Sunday morning worship service, where we pray for people by name in the Prayers of Intercession. They will also be listed in the emailed and printed versions of GraceNotes, but not in the web version. Please send prayer requests for the Sunday-morning prayers to office@glccu.org. You may also submit prayer requests on our website at https://glccu.org/prayer-requests/.

Using GLC Facilities



Our facilities are available for use by members and by outside groups. If you would like to use any part of the facility, please fill out a Facilities Use Request, found on the web site, and contact Karen in the office to ensure that it is on the calendar, so that the space is ready for you and that you are aware of how to adjust the appropriate thermostat.
