City of Regina Writing Award
Ken Wilson, a PhD student in Media and Artistic Research, won the The City of Regina Writing Award. The annual award recognizes an unpublished manuscript written by a resident of Regina. Past winners include many well-known Saskatchewan writers, including Trevor Herriot, Medrie Purdham, Connie Gault, and Dianne Warren.
Ken Wilson began his PhD in Media and Artistic Research in the faculty of Media, Art, and Performance in 2018. He was interested in that degree program because it gave him an opportunity to engage in research-creation work, which in his case has taken the shape of a creative nonfiction manuscript entitled “Walking the Bypass: A Meditation on Place.” That manuscript documents many walks in and around Regina in the summer of 2020, and juxtaposes the experience of those walks against meditations on what it means to be a settler living on Indigenous land.
