Upcoming Event: Undergraduate Research Day

To celebrate the research done by undergraduate students, FGSR is hosting the Undergraduate Research Day on August 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Students have the opportunity to share their research with an oral presentation or a poster. Graduate students and postdocs are invited to serve as mentors during this event; if you are interested contact grad.engagement@uregina.ca.

Hiring Graduate Writing Tutors

Looking for a great job? FGSR, in partnership with the Student Success Centre, is hiring graduate students to serve as writing tutors. If you have a spare three hours a week, strong writing skills, and like helping people improve their work this may be for you. The job will be for the Fall and Winter semesters; time is flexible but afternoons, evenings and weekends are preferred. The job will be posted in the next few weeks as the position starts in September. We are looking for people from all disciplines. If you want to be notified when the job is posted, please email grad.engagement@uregina.ca 

Research in Action Photo Contest

Have you ever wanted to say that you are a professional model? We can make that happen. We are creating an inventory of graduate students doing research. This is for all fields, whether you are on a mountain, in a library, behind a microscope, or a computer. The photos will be used in promotional material such as the Grad Digest, social media, and marketing material so you should to be comfortable with that. We have some prizes for the best photos. If you would like to submit a photo please send it to grad.engagement@uregina.ca with:

  • Your name
  • Name(s) of people in the photo
  • Contact info for the other people in the photo (we need their permission too)
  • Description of what is happening

Grad Spotlight

3MT National Finalist

After competing in the Western Regional Competition in Winnipeg, Kwaku Ayisi will be moving on to the National Competition in Montreal in November. Congratulations Kwaku, who is working on his Master of Public Policy. His thesis answers the following question: How did Cowessess First Nation develop and implement the Miyo Pimatisowin Act in a de-colonized, culturally centered way with the goal of providing the best quality of life for their children? Good luck in November. 

Fellowship Winner from the The Native American Journalists Association

Congratulations to the winner of the 2022 Native American Journalists Association Fellow, Priscilla Wolf, who is one of seven recipents in North America! The 2022 class of fellows will participate in a virtual curriculum with selected mentors representing broadcast, radio, print and digital media. This innovative experience will be designed to leverage the advantages of a digital newsroom while allowing fellows to strengthen reporting skills, pitch stories to news outlets, participate in the National Native Media Conference, and network with other Indigenous journalists.

Residence Move In Volunteer

We are pleased to welcome first-year students moving into our campus housing for the fall term! To make this a success and help our students feel welcome and supported, we rely on the campus community to assist. Please consider taking an important role in welcoming our next wave of first-year students, taking place Friday, August 26. This year, more than ever, we are in need of assistance as our campus volunteer programs work to re-build their student totals. All volunteers will be provided with a free lunch for their time. Please note that brief training is set for 7:30 am the morning of move in with the goal of starting at 8 am.

Universities Canada Research Award

Universities Canada is pleased to announce the launching of the 2022 IDRC International Development Research Awards (IDRA). (https://www.univcan.ca/programs-and-scholarships/idrc-international-doctoral-research-awards/) . The program is intended to build capacity and develop research skills in Canada and the Global South to improve the lives of people in the developing world.


The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of emerging researchers at Canadian universities, growing the cohort of researchers able to design, lead and carry out high-quality research that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals and specific development outcome areas of particular interest to IDRC.

This call for applications is open to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries pursuing doctoral studies at a Canadian university. Awards will cover the costs of field research conducted for a doctoral dissertation in one or more countries in the Global South.


The deadline for applications is Wednesday, August 31, 2022

Seeds for Change

SEEDS for Change, in partnership with Global Classrooms and the Dept. of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the University of Toronto, invite you to join the political pedagogical summer series on Anti-Discriminatory Education for six weeks. This is part of the Learning Without Borders and Teaching Beyond the Binary initiatives anchored in ancestral knowledge and pedagogies of the land. Anyone who is interested in learning what anti-discrimination looks like through a decolonizing approach beyond the stagnated piles of theories sitting on desks without going nowhere.

Open Projects or (Request for Researchers (RFRs) service at Mitacs is dedicated to Businesses and not-for-profit organizations looking for the right researcher to support them in their innovation projects. Mitacs works with domestic and international partners to circulate your opportunity throughout our post-secondary networks to find you candidates who are the best fit and put their skills and knowledge into practice. If you find the right project, Mitacs will connect you to the company to discuss and develop the Mitacs research proposal.
