Mitacs EDGE Training

Education, Development, Growth, Engagement (EDGE) by Mitacs Training offers professional training to complement your education and enhance your research experience by providing you with skills that are in-demand from today’s workforce.

The following workshops are available:

• Framing your project in a masterful presentation
• Incorporating reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion into your project
• Mastering the elevator pitch
• Project and time management
• Refined project communication plan

Consider the Vanier Scholarship

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program recognizes world-class doctoral students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health. The application deadline for the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is Aug. 17. Attend our how-to-apply session on July 12.

Rebekah L. Corpuz

Psychology PhD student Rebekah L. Corpuz won the 2022 Best Article in the Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology. This award is co-sponsored by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science (CSBBCS). Her supervisor is Dr. Chris Oriet.

Rebekah tells us about her paper: "Contrary to popular belief, experiencing changes in appearance can be beneficial when learning a new face (see Ritchie & Burton, 2017). The majority of research in this area only tests recognition after a short delay; however, the goal of our study (Corpuz & Oriet, 2022) was to determine whether these changes lead to better long-term recognition. We found that viewing such changes over a period of just one minute led to more accurate recognition even after five days. This is the first study to demonstrate that experiencing changes in appearance improves long-term memory of an newly encountered face."

Nahanni Young

Geology master's student Nahanni Young won the Best Poster Award at the Geological Association of Canada meeting. She placed first among 70 entries.

Her research focuses on mineral exploration in northern Saskatchewan using fluid inclusion (a drop of ancient liquid trapped in a mineral). Her supervisor is Dr. Guoxiang Chi.
