All Graduates

We would like to take the time to celebrate and congratulate all of the students who graduated from the University of Regina last month. You have all completed a major achievement and should be immensely proud. All of you have worked incredibly hard over the past several years to be where you are today, have put in the long hours and, sleepless nights, and have overcome personal challenges, all this in addition to a pandemic. For that you should be proud.

Upcoming Event: Undergraduate Research Day

Over the summer, we have been running a support program for Undergraduate Researchers. This program consists of a cohort of more than 40 undergraduates who have been hired to do exciting research on a range of topics in Science, Kinesiology and Health Studies and Arts. A poster and presentation sessions will be held on August 18. Graduate student and postdocs are invited to serve as mentors during this event. Summer is finally here! Whether you’re in the lab, the library, doing field research, or simply relaxing on the beach, we hope you make the most of the beautiful weather and clear skies.

For those of you who are experiencing your first Regina summer, make sure that you take advantage of all that the city and surrounding area have to offer. We have beautiful parks (like the one that the University of Regina is situated in), hiking trails, and much more. Later in the summer the Queen City Exhibition will be coming so make sure you keep an eye out for dates.

Grad Spotlight

Governor General Gold and Silver Medals

Congratulations to the winners of the Governor General Gold and Silver Medals! The Academic Silver Medal is awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest academic standing in a Bachelor degree program. This year, the award was presented to Kendra Lemieux, who completed her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics and a minor in Psychology with Great Distinction and an average of 94.14.

The Academic Gold Medal is awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony to the graduate student who achieves the highest academic standing in either a Master's or Doctoral program. The Gold Medal was awarded to Dr. Safa Bakjeet Alsafari, who has earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science. Dr. Alsafari’s doctoral dissertation focused on developing new and effective models for detecting offensive and hate speech on Arabic social media.

The Geological Survey of Canada

Geological Survey of Canada has just started a recruitment campaign to hire up to 12 new Research Scientists to support our growing research program on Critical Minerals. Research and Training for Global Challenges

Ca' Foscari's “G@V - Research and Training for Global Challenges” Co-fund Fellowship Programme, is a 60-month project launched by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and jointly funded by the European Commission's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND is seeking applicants. The project aims to strengthen high-profile researchers’ capacities through collaboration with Ca' Foscari's Institute for Global Challenges -- a trans-disciplinary centre where thematic groups develop advanced research to face current and future global challenges -- in order to provide Europe and the world with a pool of researchers capable of bridging the gap between academic and applied research, and between research and the market.Applicants are requested to submit their own research proposal in connection with one of Ca' Foscari's six multidisciplinary Research for Global Challenges Institutes (RGCI), selecting the one best suited to support their individual research and training needs.

Seeds for Change

SEEDS for Change, in partnership with Global Classrooms and the Dept. of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the University of Toronto, invite you to join the political pedagogical summer series on Anti-Discriminatory Education for six weeks. This is part of the Learning Without Borders and Teaching Beyond the Binary initiatives anchored in ancestral knowledge and pedagogies of the land. Anyone who is interested in learning what anti-discrimination looks like through a decolonizing approach beyond the stagnated piles of theories sitting on desks without going nowhere.
