Larissa Kitchemonia

Larissa Kitchemonia.jpg

Graduate students at the University of Regina continue to have a positive impact in our community. The gate for the recently renewed Wascana Pool will be designed by the University of Regina's Larissa Kitchemonia, from the Faculty of Music, Arts, and Performance. She is currently a Masters of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies candidate at the University of Regina and has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Fine Arts from the First Nations University of Canada. Larissa is an Anishnaabe-Saulteaux woman from The Key First Nation, living in Regina, Saskatchewan. Her art practice primarily focuses on painting and beadwork along with exploring installation and sculpture. Recurring topics found within her work are about nature, womanhood and motherhood embedded with traditional First Nation ideology and practices. Her work is rooted in reclaiming traditional identities and exploring Anishnaabe – Saulteaux culture and traditions. Her overall approach to her art is to acknowledge her culture and create art as a way of to evoke storytelling and learning.  The Wascana Gate Pool project will feature a layered diorama to create a nature-scape of Wascana and Regina, and involves collaboration with Pro Metal, owned and operated by Pasqua First Nation.
