Join us at Darke Hall at 5:30 p.m. on March 28 for the University of Regina's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Finals, which will showcase and celebrate research happening at the U of R. This event will feature eight graduate student finalists who will projects in an accessible and compelling way in three minutes or less — with the assistance of just one static slide!

Coffee with the Dean

Every month, FGSR Dean Dr. Aziz Douai meets graduate students to discuss issues important to graduate student success. The March Coffee with the Dean meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 28 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. and will feature the Interdisciplinary Series for Professional Intellectual and Research Engagement (INSPIRE) group. Student researchers from that group will be holding lightning talks that highlight their research and their research success. All are welcome so please come join us in CK 226; we will have coffee, tea and donuts. Call for Outstanding Supervisor Nominations

Do you have a great supervisor? The Award for Outstanding Graduate Supervision recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a record of excellent mentorship and supervision of graduate students at the University of Regina. The winner will be nominated for the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies (CAGS) Award for Outstanding Graduate Mentorship. The nomination deadline has been extended until April 30. Consider nominating your supervisor!

NEW OPPORTUNITY: L'Oréal Canada Fellowship

The University of Regina is running an internal competition for the L'Oréal Canada Fellowship. This one-year, post-doctoral fellowship worth $20,000 can be held by a female student (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident) in STEM who will be pursuing post-doctoral studies at a recognized Canadian University. If you are a student about to complete your program or currently involved in post-doctoral research at the U of R you may be eligible.

Applications require a completed internal application form, two reference letters and a letter from the supporting institution. Interested post-docs should send their completed internal application form and two reference letters to Grad.Funding@uregina.ca no later than April 3. The top two applicants will receive the U of R's letter of support and feedback on how to improve their application before submitting to the main award portal by April 18.

FGSR celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science at Coffee with the Dean on Feb 17. The event featured members of U of R Women in Science and Engineering (URWISE) and the U of R Women's Centre. The conversation was about growth toward gender equity and equality as well as resources for women at the University.

Cultural Creativity Session at the ta-tawâw Centre

Please come out to the ta-tawâw Student Centre (RIC 108) to learn some Indigenous bead-work skills and create some simple projects (or more advanced if you wish). We will provide instructions and materials for you. The Cultural Creativity sessions run each Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. and Friday from 1-4 p.m., with our instructor Connie Mussell.

Breath, Sound, Silence (meditation/relaxation sessions)

U of R Humanities Research Institute Guest Scholar Stacey Bliss holds meditation/relaxation sessions on Tuesday evenings from 9-9:30 p.m. During these 30-minute sessions, which will continue until April 11, there participants meditate on their breath or a focal point, enjoy soundscapes and then conclude with silence. These sessions are free for students, sessional instructors and folks with limited income. Once you register here, you'll receive a confirmation email with the zoom link.

What are Universities For? Exploring roles, challenges, conflicting tensions, and promising re-imaginings

There are 10 free spots for graduate students to attend this symposium May 4, 5 & 6. Beyond that, the registration fee is $325, with opportunities for sessional and graduate student subsidies, & includes breakfast, lunch & dinner each day). Registration is hard-capped at 180. There will be a free pre-symposium panel May 3 at Darke Hall, capped at 450. This session is hosted by President Jeff Keshen and will be moderated by the award-winning journalist, Nahlah Ayed and recorded for CBC IDEAS. Open Projects or (Request for Researchers (RFRs) service at Mitacs is dedicated to Businesses and not-for-profit organizations looking for the right researcher to support them in their innovation projects. Mitacs works with domestic and international partners to circulate your opportunity throughout our post-secondary networks to find you candidates who are the best fit and put their skills and knowledge into practice. If you find the right project, Mitacs will connect you to the company to discuss and develop the Mitacs research proposal.
