Please review this information on Incomplete grades

Dear Faculty,

Incomplete grades give students more time to complete work and potentially improve their grade. If a student has completed at least 75% of the coursework and has a legitimate reason, the student may be eligible for an Incomplete.

Please discuss with your student and determine an action plan with an associated timeline. Complete the Incomplete Grade Contract which must be signed by the student, faculty member and the Dean - and kept on file in the Dean's office.

For more information on incomplete grades, please review the  FSCJ Grading Policies .

Once you and your student have agreed on a timeline, you will have to make your Blackboard course available to the student. It is recommended that you only make the course available to one individual student (as necessary), rather than opening up the whole course for viewing by everyone on the roster.

Please follow these steps:

  • Log in to myFSCJ and access Blackboard
  • Navigate to the “Users” menu which is nested under “Users and Groups” in the Course Management Area on the bottom left-hand side of the screen (see screenshot below)
  • Use the search bar at the top to search for the specific student (or enter the “not Blank” search parameter to get a list of all enrolled students)
  • Hover over the desired student's username so that an arrow is visible just to the right of it. Click on the arrow and select “Change User’s Availability in Course” from the drop-down menu that appears
  • On the next screen, selecting “Yes” to make this course available to this student only.
  • Once the incomplete is resolved, the course should then be made unavailable.
Please remember to follow this process so that course security can be maintained by limiting course access only to those students who need it to resolve incomplete grades.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out to your Dean or other immediate supervisor.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rich Turner
