Three Minute Thesis (3MT)
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition—developed by The University of Queensland, Australia—challenges participants to condense an 80,000-word dissertation (which would take nine hours to present) into a compelling and accessible 180-second talk.
This fast-paced, high-energy event showcases the power of concise communication, critical thinking, and public speaking—all wrapped into one thrilling research showdown.

Small Grants for Graduate Students Panel Discussion
Join the Graduate College for an engaging panel to discuss opportunities that are available for graduate students seeking small grants for research. The faculty and graduate student panelists will share their experiences of obtaining grants in their fields, provide insight on where and how to obtain grants, discuss the challenges they experienced during the grant process, and answer your questions. The Graduate College will also share information from the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research about the requirements that all students need to follow to successfully acquire a grant. Do not miss the opportunity to connect with faculty and fellow graduate students to gain practical tips on obtaining a grant to enhance your research!
In this session, you will:
- Identify where to find small grants to support your research.
- Explain the process for planning, writing, and applying for grants.
- Describe the BGSU requirements that all students need to follow to successfully acquire a grant.
This session is intended for graduate students seeking small grants for research purposes, but all members of the BGSU teaching community are welcome to attend.

Katzner Graduate Student Research and Professional Development
In early 1998, after 13 years as Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate College, Dr. Louis Katzner decided to return to what attracted him to higher education in the first place – the study and teaching of philosophy. One of his top priorities during his tenure as the Graduate Dean was to increase the support available to graduate students for conducting research and for professional development. The Katzner Award can be used to supplement the cost of graduate student research and professional development activities for graduate students at Bowling Green State University. Each semester, three awards will be granted ($1000, $750, and $500).

Shanklin Research Awards
The Charles E. Shanklin Award for Research Excellence was established by the Graduate Student Senate as a meritorious award to recognize excellence in original research by graduate students at Bowling Green State University. Mr. Charles E. Shanklin, a Bowling Green State University alumnus, generously contributed funds to Graduate Student Senate to further graduate research; thus, a special account for the Shanklin Award was established.

Gendered Regimes of AI Visualization Symposium
This symposium is supported by the BGSU Shanklin AI Innovation Award, as part of the project, A Practice-Led Feminist Pedagogy: Working with Students to Help Them Make Meaning and Find Their Voice through Generative AI.
The Shanklin AI Innovation Award recognizes innovative uses of AI in teaching and learning at BGSU. This project was competitively selected last spring, distinguished as the only one employing a critical framework to explore AI’s role in education.

Funk Music in Popular Culture
Indie Lens Pop-Up, WBGU-PBS, the Department of Popular Culture and the School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, are proud to announce the Funk Music in Popular Culture Conference to be held April 25 & 26.
Call for papers and presentations. Individual presentation proposals—papers, music demonstrations or artistic displays—should include a 300-word abstract. Panel or roundtable presentation proposals should include a 300-word abstract for each presenter and a 500-word abstract for the panel or roundtable.
