Update from Norwin School District
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Taylor
May 15, 2020
Dear Norwin Families and Community Members,

As you know, Westmoreland County has moved to the yellow phase of the state’s reopening plan as of today. While this is a positive development, we are not yet in a position to hold graduation ceremonies on the original date of May 22nd due to the fact that large gatherings of more than 25 people are prohibited.

Therefore, with much regret, I am announcing that we will need to postpone graduation until at least June in order to have an in-person commencement ceremony. The dates, including rain dates, are:

  • Friday, June 26, 2020 @ 7:00 pm Knights Stadium
  • Saturday, June 27, 2020 @ 9:00 am Knights Stadium (rain date)
  • Saturday, June 27, 2020 @ 11:00 am Knights Stadium (rain date/time)

Like many of our Norwin families, I am deeply disappointed by this postponement. However, please know that our goal is to have a traditional graduation ceremony this summer.

I believe that graduation is an important rite of passage that marks our journey through adolescence. By being forced to delay graduation beyond the last day of school on May 22nd, our seniors are missing a sense of closure. I recognize the understandable feelings of sadness and frustration that go along with mourning the loss of the end of their senior year.

I recently came across an original tribute song to the Class of 2020 that I would like to share with you and our seniors.  Ryan Stockham of Ohio wrote a song in dedication "To The Class of 2020" in order to acknowledge these unprecedented times.

This week, we contacted the composer and asked for his permission to use his song as background music in a Norwin Senior Tribute Video, and he graciously agreed. As you watch this video, I encourage our seniors and their families to pay special attention to the lyrics of the song. I hope you find this video as inspirational as I did.

Please continue to stay safe, healthy and #NorwinStrong !

Best regards,
Dr. Jeff Taylor

In Case You Missed It: Experience the Senior Art Show
Norwin School District's Art Department cordially invites you to experience the 16th-annual Senior Art Show.

More than 300 pieces of artwork created by more than 50 seniors are on display. These include:

  • Two-dimensional works (paint, pencil, pastel, charcoal, pen, watercolor, and digital)
  • Three-dimensional work (clay projects and sculptures)

The Art Show is a major end-of-school-year event, and was converted to a virtual format due to statewide school building closures. Art Department Chair Mrs. Chris Satterfield said: "Even though we won't be able to have this at school and see one another in person, the show must go on!"
