Advising Team Updates

February 2023

News from The Advising Team!

Graduation is almost here! The advising team wanted to share with you all a few critical updates regarding graduation. There's a ton of information so please make sure you read this carefully. If you need any support or clarification, please contact your academic advisor.

Spring 2023 Graduation

Apply to graduate through the Student Information System. This is how the university confirms students have met their degree requirements and is how they will receive their diploma. For questions regarding this application and diplomas, students should contact the Office of the Registrar at [email protected] or 517-355-3300.

The Commencement Office does not have access to student accounts and cannot check the status of applications. More information can be found on the RO’s website here.

Spring 2023 graduates have until May 5 to submit their graduation application.

To ensure your name will appear in the commencement program, graduates must submit their application by Monday, February 13. If you apply after this date, your name will not print. Please note that students who have a directory restriction on their account will not have their name print.

Additionally, if you miss that deadline, having your name in the program does not impact your ability to walk or have your name announced during a ceremony. Names are called based on the participation registration and not the program, so that only the names of graduates in attendance are read.

Ceremony Details

Register to participate in your commencement ceremony to confirm your intent to walk and have their name called. The registration link is available now on the Commencement website. Students will be able to pre-register until Friday, April 14. If you miss that deadline, it is NOT an issue. You are still welcome to participate! The office of the Provost Events prints name cards based on this registration for graduates to hand to the name readers before crossing the stage. Graduates that pre-register will have a printed name card when they arrive prior to their ceremony, those that did not register will simply need to fill in a blank card upon their arrival.

Once you have completed those two items, you should also arrange for your cap, gown, and other regalia through the Spartan Spirit Shop. Details regarding regalia orders, diploma frames, announcements, and class rings can be found on the Cap and Gown page of our website. We would also strongly recommend you visit the Advanced Degrees page for additional graduate instructions and information, such as candidate assembly, order of ceremonies, and accessibility accommodations.

Additionally, there are NO tickets required for guests and there is no limit to the number of guests per graduate at this time.

Please check in with your fellow graduating classmates to make sure they know this information!

We look forward to seeing you graduate!
