CPR Class at the Seminary

On May 11, the St. Nersess students became certified in Heartsaver CPR/AED, which is for individuals with little or no medical training. Dn. Diran Jebejian, seminary board member and parishioner of St. Leon Armenian Church, Fair Lawn, NJ, taught the basics of CPR and AED, including how to recognize cardiac arrest and provide assistance safely and in a timely manner until EMS assistance arrives.

The students learned to perform high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants and practiced on AHA approved mannequins with real ventilation techniques.

They learned how to operate Automatic External Defibrillators (AED), became familiar with the device that is kept on the seminary campus, and learned contraindications for using an AED. They also learned how to help somebody who is choking.

This was the first time a course of this magnitude was taught at the seminary. Dn. Diran has been an EMT for 26 years with the Fort Lee Ambulance Corps in NJ and currently serves as a Chief. He has been instructing CPR for over 10 years and donated his time to St. Nersess.
