It's graduation month
Greetings!

Welcome to the June Newsletter from Holy Cross. It's been a busy few months at Holy Cross. Standard 4 students enjoyed a field trip to the mainland, visiting a rice processing factory and Mayan ruins. Infant 1 students went to the Zoo and Old Belize to see how life used to be.

Much of the month has been all about sitting - and preparing for - end of year exams.

The highlight of the month is without a doubt graduations, where we celebrate the many achievements of our students. So sit back, grab a coffee and celebrate with us as you read the stories below.
Celebrating success
Preschool Graduation
Preschool students and their families gathered to celebrate their first graduation. Families took this graduation very seriously, dressing in their finest clothes and celebrating the success of their children.

Standard 6 Graduation
Our most anticipated graduation is for standard six, as we celebrate the students who we have come to know well.

Literacy Program Graduation
Our literacy program also held it's graduation, full of fun and ice-cream.
Guest speaker Michael Howe shared how he couldn't read until he started at Holy Cross at age 14. He encouraged them by sharing how he went on graduate from high school and now works as a tour guide.

High School Graduation
The local high school graduated a record number of students this year, including a good representation of Holy Cross students.

This year three sponsors were there to watch their scholarship students graduate. Over the years they helped students face challenges, got to know their families and watch them start on their road to adult life.

Staff Changes
Principal Griffith Retires
Three years ago we welcomed Mr. Rodney Griffith as the Principal of Holy Cross. He has served faithfully as staff and students alike adjusted to the passing of Mrs Grace Williams.

Mr Griffith came out of retirement to serve at Holy Cross. He now looks forward to enjoying some well earned rest and relaxation as he retires for a second time.

The Anglican Diocese of Belize is going through an open hiring process to appoint a new principal.
We welcome Lonni Skrentner & Jan Lamb to the HCE Foundation
The Holy Cross Education Foundation is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers, from all walks of life, who at some point in the past came to Holy Cross School as part of a mission experience and left a part of their heart at the school. As a result, these people freely give of their time, talent and treasure in an effort to secure the future of Holy Cross. The primary focus of the group is to provide both financial and operational support to the principal, staff, students and their families.

The mission of the Foundation is to assist in preparing students for the challenges of life in the 21st century: spiritually, mentally, morally, emotionally and physically by providing a state-of-the-art educational environment.
The Holy Cross Education Foundation is pleased to welcome two new members to it's board.
Lonni Skrentner
Ms Lonni Skrentner has 39 years of teaching experience in and out of classrooms. She brings a veteran teacher's viewpoint to the board, providing insights on the joys and struggles of the classroom.

You can read more about Lonni's adventures teaching at Holy Cross here.
Jan Lamb
Deacon Jan Lamb brings a wealth of educational and pastoral experience to the Board. She has specialized in teaching children with learning differences and has 43 years of classroom experience.

Deacon Jan as been associated with the school since it's founding, serving on many mission trips with St Luke's Episcopal Church and spent 3 months at the school as unofficial chaplain and counsellor.
We are grateful for the many years of service these women have given to Holy Cross School and look forward to many years more. Thank you!
