CAPS & GOWNS FOR COCOSPA'S FIRST GRADUATING CLASS
|
On June 5, in a festive, jubilant ceremony held in the Hoffman Theater at the Lesher Center for the Arts, the
Contra Costa School of Performing Arts (CoCoSPA)
graduated its first senior class, the Class of 2019. Sixteen seniors sat proudly, excitedly on stage in front of beaming parents, family, friends, and faculty as their names and fields of artistic study were called.
"The first graduating class for SPA is a monumental occasion, especially for those of us who were there from the very beginning when this was just an idea," says Neil McChesney, Executive Director of CoCoSPA, which opened in Shadelands in 2016. "This is the realization of our dream and our mission."
All 16 seniors enrolled in CoCoSPA in 2016 as sophomores and all 16 graduated ready to attend college, having met established requirements, which is part of CoCoSPA's diploma status.
"We started this school to provide what we felt was a missing option in this community—
in this county—
to pursue conservatory level training in the arts integrated with a robust academic program. That option didn't exist until now," says Neil. "Those students who walked across the stage for the first time represent that dream coming true."
For these 16 grads who turned their tassels, the next chapter begins. Congratulations Contra Costa School of Performing Arts Class of 2019!

THE UPS STORE OPENS AT
THE ORCHARDS
|
Visit the new
UPS Store
at The Orchards and you'll find a wide range of products and services designed to support individuals and small business owners in the local community.
Locally owned by Joe Hanko, The UPS Store officially opened on Monday, June 17, between Elements Massage and Park Ave Cleaners.
"We're more than packing and shipping and copying," says Joe. "We provide mailboxes with a real street address, package notification, and design and printing services for direct mail postcards, business cards, flyers, brochures, and banners that help shape and promote businesses—that help build their brands."
Additionally, The UPS Store is a local source for office supplies, notary services (Joe is a notary public), shredding, and international shipping.
In November 2018, Joe took ownership of The UPS Store when it was located across the street at Encina Grande Shopping Center. After the first of the year, he moved the store to The Orchards and is enthusiastic about his new Shadelands location.
"This is a growing area, with lots of great businesses already here, and many more moving in," says Joe, who lives in the Northgate area with his wife and three children, who attend local schools. "I like this neighborhood very much—there's a strong community spirit here and there's always something new popping up."
Joe enjoys face to face interactions and conversations with customers. "I like talking with people, hearing their stories, and helping them, in any way I can. It's all about helping people."

IMMEDIATE, ADVANCED CARE NOW IN SHADELANDS
|
"Advanced" because, with a wider range of onsite, state-of-the-art diagnostic, imaging, and lab technology, BASS can get to the root of non-emergency illnesses and injuries faster.
Among many other health conditions,
Urgent Care
treats headaches, colds, flu, sore throats, allergies and asthma, ear infections, rashes and itching, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, sports injuries, and swollen glands.
Imaging
provides radiology services including MRIs, x-rays, 64 slice CT scans, DEXA scans (non-invasive tests that measure bone mineral density to assess if a person is at risk of osteoporosis or fracture), and ultrasounds—on site.
The new Phillips MR 3T Ingenia Elition S is rated 3T (Tesla) because of its magnetic capacity, superior to traditional 1.5T machines. This 3T MRI offers an immersive audio-visual "in bore" experience to help calm anxious patients and make the time go faster. Videos of nature, animals, boat rides, the ocean, and more are available for viewing—and cartoons are available for young patients.
The full service
Lab
provides best in class clinical lab services on site using a premier Atellica Solutions machine, which handles a wide array of chemistry and immunoassay analysis. All samples are processed on site on the same day so clinicians can make better, faster decisions.
"We take a very personal approach to healthcare and pay attention to the ease of access to that care—we are, in that sense, a 'one stop shopping' experience for patients," says Howard King, BASS Chief Administrative Officer. "We're pleased to bring these premier services and technologies to Shadelands as an immediate and cost-effective alternative for common illnesses or injuries not requiring more expensive emergency care. We're here for Shadelands employees, should they need medical services during their workday, and we're here for the health and well being of the community at large."

|
Real Good Fish is a member of Community Supported Fisheries (CSF) and is akin to Terra Firma Farm in that it promotes seasonal options and sustainability and helps educate consumers on those options, but with a focus on fish, rather than produce.
