For more than 50 years our family has tended our vineyards and grown our own grapes, for our wines, along the lush banks of the Sacramento River. We are striving to perfect the art and science of grape growing, and we’re proud to share the rewards of our labor by creating wines that showcase distinctive grapes perfectly. Bridging all aspects of our Winery from the Vineyard, to the Cellar, Winery Grounds,Tasting Room and beyond.

Just in time for Summer... the 2022 Vin Gris!

Written by Winemaker, David Shattuck

We are excited to be releasing one of my favorite summer wines: the 2022 Grand Island Vineyards vin gris of Cabernet Sauvignon.

These grapes are from the shaded section of our estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. The shade helps maintain a naturally high acidity and fresh fruit aroma that our Rose displays.

This wine is processed and fermented similar to our other white wines to help maintain bright fruit, delicate tannin, and fresh taste. I really enjoy serving this wine with most dishes off the grill or fresh caprese salad.

The wine pours a luxurious pink hue. The initial aromas are ripe marionberry, strawberry, pomegranate blossom, and warm river rock. The mouth feel is surprisingly rich with a zest acidity that provides a counterpoint to the fruit core. The finish is a haunting melange of citrus zest, black cherry, and Angelica root.

Two New Salman Family Reserve Wines!

Written by Winemaker, Ed Seikel

We are pleased to announce we bottled two new wines for our Salman Family Reserve Club this summer!

The first wine bottled was the 2022 Salman Family Reserve Chardonnay. The grapes for this wine were grown in the vineyards that border the winery itself and can be seen on the left as you turn onto the winery estate.

Distinct from our tank fermented GIV Chardonnay, the Reserve was aged in oak for over 6 months, which further amplified the intense aroma and complexity of the wine.

The other wine was the 2020 Salman Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine comes from a small block of vines located on the Salman Family Home Ranch. It produced only 4 barrels, of which only the two very best were used for the final wine. It yielded a very rich, concentrated wine that holds up well to the new French oak that it was aged in for over 2 years.

Both of these wines were produced in very limited quantities, and will be coming to the Reserve Club over the next few shipments, so if you are interested in either wine, be sure to continue to check the newsletter or our social media for when they will be available or look into joining our Reserve Club before the next release!

Summertime Fun at Grand Island Vineyards!

Written by Operations Manager, Joe Salman

June has been a blur. Luckily the month has been mostly cool until today (June 30th) as I write this exceptional article. Kids are out of school, but one is on an All-Star baseball team so life is crazy!

We have great employees, and our work in the field and winery progressed nicely throughout the months.

May was shoot thinning month, and June is leaf pulling month. (see before and after photos below).

The Gewurztraminer canopy is dense even after removing a good amount of those green shoots when young, but typically we remove leaves to allow more light and air flow around the fruit. We still use some hand labor to do this in special locations, but the majority now is done with a fancy machine.

As always you are more than welcome to peek in the vineyards or take a look at our equipment. We pride ourselves on being a farm, vineyard, winery and tasting room.
