Community Grand Opening of New
Pet Adoption Center is Oct. 26!
|
|
As a friend of the animals and Kitsap Humane Society, you're among the first to know: Our Community Grand Opening of the new Pet Adoption Center is Saturday, Oct. 26. Please come and join us!
We'll have a short ceremony followed by a festive open house all day long. This is our chance to thank the community for its love and support for the lifesaving work at Kitsap Humane Society, and for helping us build a more humane community for us all.
The new, 9,500-square-foot Pet Adoption Center will provide the animals in our care with larger, quieter and more comfortable housing to promote their health and well-being. When animals are happier and less stressed, they are easier to adopt. The sooner the animals are adopted into loving families, the better!
Learn more about our community Grand Opening celebration on our
website, and watch for an email invitation in the weeks to come. We can't wait to see you there!

What a Night: Animal Krackers Raises $500,000 for Shelter Pets
|
|
More than 440 animal lovers in all their finery raised a whopping
$500,000 for shelter pets at Kitsap Humane Society’s 26th annual Animal Krackers gala Sept. 28. Funds from the event will provide lifesaving care and support for the more 6,500 animals who come through our doors each year.
The evening kicked off with a silent auction and snuggles with adorable adoptables in the kitten and puppy cuddle booth. One highlight of the evening included a moving tribute to the late Dr. Jim Moore, a beloved veterinarian, former KHS board member and volunteer. KHS Executive Director Eric Stevens led the guests in a toast in his memory, noting Dr. Moore was “instrumental in elevating the vision of what Kitsap Humane Society could become.”

Have a Slumber Paw-ty with a Shelter Dog!
|
|
Did you know shelter dogs make some of the best cuddle buddies? Find out for yourself by inviting a shelter dog over for a sleepover this fall! The number of volunteers available for daytime field trips has dwindled since school began and the weather got chilly and rainy, but there are other ways to give our pets a break from the shelter!
The shelter environment can be very stressful for some dogs and sleepovers have proven to help reduce stress among shelter pets. Inviting a shelter pup home for a sleepover is easy! Simply attend a quick, one-time orientation and schedule your sleepover by emailing

Tonto is a handsome 1-year-old Whippet mix with an active and silly personality. He would make the best adventure buddy around and loves going on long walks, hikes and runs! Tonto is also a super smart boy who would love to bond with his adopters through positive reinforcement training – he has even learned “sit” while here at the shelter! He loves to play and thinks squeaky toys and chew toys are the absolute best! Since Tonto is a high energy dog he is looking for a very active family that will give him lots of outlets for his energy. If you are looking for a sweet, active, goofy, and adorable dog to add to your home and heart, then ask to meet Tonto today!

Employee Spotlight
Byron Robinson
|
Byron Robinson, our Facility Maintenance Technician, is a talented member of the KHS team. He's quick to respond to maintenance requests and makes sure staff and volunteers are taken care of promptly.
Byron has a deep compassion for animals, both on and off the clock! In his spare time, he volunteers as a morning dog walker, has built new roofs for outdoor dog kennels, and recently crafted custom, wooden cabinets that double as litter boxes for the cattery in the new Pet Adoption Center.
“He’s very compassionate about the animals here, and he literally feels like he would work here for free,”
said Shelter Manager Bobby Cook.
In fact, Robinson’s long-term plan is to eventually retire from Kitsap Humane Society and continue to participate as a volunteer.
“I’m blessed; I really am. I enjoy what I do, and I can honestly say I love who I do it for.”
Thank you, Byron, for all you do for the staff, volunteers – and most importantly – the animals! We’re so lucky to have you!
