JUST RELEASED — Latino Grandfamilies: Helping Latino Children Thrive Through Connection to Culture and Family

Yesterday, Generations United released our new toolkit, Latino Grandfamilies: Helping Latino Children Thrive Through Connection to Culture and Family. This new toolkit is designed to give resources and tips to child welfare agencies, other government agencies, and nonprofit organizations so that they can better serve all Latino grandfamilies regardless of child welfare involvement. The Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren's Initial Report to Congress Now Available

On November 16, 2021, the Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren released its initial report to Congress. This report outlines the joys, challenges, gaps, and unmet needs faced by kin and grandparent caregivers. It also describes federal programs currently available to assist them and provides 22 recommendations for better supporting kinship families and grandfamilies. The recommendations will inform the development of the National Family Caregiving Strategy, which will include action steps to increase recognition and support for kin and grandparent caregivers. Generations United GRAND Voice Network members Sonya Begay, Gail Engel, Sarah Smalls, and Sharon Olson serve on the council, with Deputy Executive Director Jaia Lent serving as co-chair. Learn more.

At the meeting, Generations United's Donna Butts and Ana Beltran presented an overview on the new National Technical Assistance Center on Kinship and Grandfamilies.

Healthy Eating for Kids

Healthy Eating Research’s Recommendations for Creating Healthy Eating Habits for Kids 2 to 8 offer tips and recommendations for how to feed young kids. This age range is a time when reluctance to eat new foods and other picky eating habits are common, which can be a big source of stress for parents. The research-based recommendations show that autonomy, structure, and repetition are key to helping young children develop healthy eating habits. They are running an ongoing national survey of child care providers who care for young children between the ages of birth-5 years.

The RAPID-CC survey is designed to rapidly share critical information about the needs and well-being of child care providers in America with people who can make an impact, like elected officials.
