State Arts Council offers help and one-on-one support sessions for grant applications


Arts Council staff members have scheduled virtual workshops and office hours throughout August, September and early October.

Open Call for the next State Poet of Rhode Island


On behalf of Gov. McKee, we have started the process of naming the next State Poet of Rhode Island. This position, created by law by the Rhode Island General Assembly in 1987, will be filled through a five-year appointment.


The application deadline is August 21.

In Person Folk and Traditional Arts Info Sessions

Applications now open; Deadline Sept. 15


RISCA’s Arts and Cultural Sustainability Program Director, Elena Calderón Patiño, will be On the Road and onsite to provide assistance, information and answer any questions related to grants for folk and traditional apprenticeships or fellowships.


Folk and traditional arts are defined as artistic practices that are community- or family-based and express aesthetic heritage and tradition. The arts agency has two grant opportunities for folk and traditional artists, and they are:


  • Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grants foster the sharing of traditional/folk artistic skills between a mentor and an apprentice who is already familiar with the genre and share a common cultural heritage.
  • Folk and Traditional Arts Fellowship Grants provide support to individual traditional/folk artists who demonstrate the highest level of skill and accomplishments in their craft.


The information sessions are scheduled for the following dates:


  • Wed., Aug. 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Rd., Warwick.
  • Fri., Aug. 18, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Tomaquag Museum, 390A Summit Rd, Exeter.
  • Wed., Aug. 23, 1-3 p.m., South County Art Association, 2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston.
  • Thurs., Aug. 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., Cumberland.
  • Wed., Aug. 30, noon-2 p.m., Refugee Dream, 747 Broad St., Providence.

Call for Artists!

Block Island and T.F. Green International Airports Galleries


The call for artists for the 2024 exhibitions at the Block Island Airport Gallery and GREEN SPACE Gallery at Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport is now open.

 

The deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 9, at 11:59 p.m.

The call considers artists who work in all media. Applicants must be Rhode Island residents. Students are ineligible.

 

The selection of artists will be by a review panel, which includes practicing artists, arts professionals and community members. Artists included in the 2024 exhibitions will receive a $300 stipend for participating in the program.


The galleries are a partnership with the R.I. Airport Corporation (RIAC). Read more about the Call.
