Public hearing on food truck ordinance set Nov. 20
Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government's Parish Council will consider changing how food trucks are regulated and permitted in Houma's Historic District during a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.
The proposed and committee-approved ordinance would require an annual registration of $100 with a valid health permit, motor-vehicle registration statement, occupational license, statement of good standing from the Louisiana Secretary of State and approval from one of the parish's Fire Prevention Bureaus.
Each location, including on private property, where the mobile-food unit would operate would be required to have a permit (no fee) which requires the application, proof of ownership or written permission from the property owner, and a site plan clearly showing where the unit will be parked and how it will affect parking and deliveries. A unit could be located for no more than 24 hours at the same location twice in a year without obtaining a permit.
Mobile food vendors will still be allowed on public property for organized events such as fairs, festivals, fundraisers and private events with a separate Public Property Use Permit.
The public hearing will be conducted in the Parish Council meeting room on the second floor of Government Tower, 8026 Main St. in Houma.
