Dear Friends,
As we close out July, we’re taking a moment to shine a light on one of our remarkable grantee partners whose mission embodies the values we hold dear at The Washington Home.
We are proud to spotlight Food & Friends, an organization delivering not just nutritious meals, but hope, dignity, and critical support to individuals living with serious illnesses in Washington, D.C. Their work is a powerful reminder of how compassion and innovation can transform lives, and it’s exactly the kind of impact we are committed to nurturing through our grantmaking.
For over three decades, Food & Friends has cared for older adults living with serious illnesses by delivering medically tailored meals, groceries, and providing nutrition counseling.
They serve individuals affected by conditions such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), end-stage renal disease, Type 1 & Type 2 diabetes, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, liver disease (including cirrhosis), Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, malnutrition or risk due to illness, and recovery from surgery or injury.
Their mission is simple but profound: to nourish the bodies and uplift the spirits of neighbors across the region who are too ill to shop or cook for themselves. This commitment is deeply aligned with The Washington Home’s mission to improve the quality of life for older adults and the critically ill.
Through their Food is Medicine model, centered on medically tailored nutrition and home-delivered meals and groceries, Food & Friends ensures that our most vulnerable neighbors are nourished, supported, and able to remain in their homes and communities with dignity.
Their holistic, compassionate model of care exemplifies the kind of high-impact, community-rooted service The Washington Home is proud to invest in. As we continue to strengthen partnerships and expand support for programs that meet the critical needs of older adults, organizations like Food & Friends inspire our shared vision for a more equitable and healthier Washington, D.C.
We are deeply grateful for their work and proud to walk alongside them in service of our mission.
Warm regards,
The Washington Home
