| | PORCH Neighborhood Donations Are a Game-Changer | | Is Your Neighborhood Part of PORCH? | |
Each month our volunteers collect bags of food from porches in their neighborhoods and deliver them to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard.
These donations are making a huge difference at the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Check out the photos below of donations from neighborhoods during August!
| | PORCH Holly Springs is looking for more monthly food donors. Signing up is quick, and volunteers pick up and deliver to the pantry. Join us in making a real impact, one PORCH at a time. | | Thank you, Holly Glen, for two drop offs last month, collected by volunteers Laura and Addison (pictured). | | Thank you, Avocet neighbors! Regular porch pickups are a lifesaver - especially during these summer months, when donations tend to slow down but the need never does. Every bag makes a difference! | | Thank you to the Woodcreek neighborhood for two amazing hauls last month! That’s what we call PORCH power! | | Thanks to Lindsay’s delivery magic, Trinity Creek neighborhood's PORCH collection arrived at the Cupboard last month. Trinity Creek has donated every single month for the past 18 months! That’s not just generosity, that’s a commitment to making sure our neighbors never go without. | | Many thanks to the Doret family and the amazing Sunset Ridge North community! We are so grateful for the community’s big hearts and support. | | The Holly Springs Food Cupboard's strong partnership with Food Lion continues to make a powerful impact. Last month, Food Lion volunteers helped with packing and distribution. The Cupboard also receives regular food recovery from two local stores: Food Lion #938 at 517 N. Main Street and Food Lion #2198 at 8745 Holly Springs Road. Their support is multifaceted, including the personal efforts of Rich Meuse, the Main Street store manager who volunteers as a delivery driver. The store also assists with bulk and last-minute orders, and the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has provided the Food Cupboard with several grants. Thank you to the amazing Food Lion team! | | Thank You, Heroes Express Car Wash! | | |
When a donation needs a U-Haul, you know it’s BIG!
Last month, the Cupboard was blown away by the generosity of Heroes Car Wash in Cary. They rolled up with a U-Haul packed full of food staples including cereal, canned veggies and tomatoes, soup, peanut butter & jelly, pasta, and canned fruit.
This incredible donation was part of a matching drive organized earlier this spring by Tim Overton with Bikes for Hope and My Way Tavern. Talk about community teamwork!
We’re so grateful to Heroes Car Wash for going above and beyond to care for our neighbors.
| | Last month, Duke Energy Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to the Food Cupboard to support the student bag program. Student bags are filled with child-friendly, non-perishable food items, and they are distributed to families with school-aged children, ensuring they have access to meals and snacks. Last year, the Cupboard distributed 7,033 student bags, a 33% increase over 2023. We are grateful for the grant funding! | | Around the Cupboard Last Month | | |
A flock of flamingos took over the lawn at 12 Oaks, and it was all for a good cause! The incredible 12 Oaks 55+ Charity Committee hosted their Flamingle for a Cause fundraiser benefitting the Holly Springs Food Cupboard’s Student Bags program. For the big finale, pink flamingos with donor names covered the 12 Oaks Clubhouse lawn as the committee presented their check.
Huge thanks to the event organizers: Committee leads Barb Topp & Jean Plante, and Flamingle chairs Jill Parsons & Cammie Hackney.
Because of their creativity, passion, and the generosity of the 12 Oaks community, thousands of local children will continue receiving Student Bags packed with kid-friendly snacks.
Thank you to this amazing committee and the caring community behind them.
| | You’re one in a melon, Oak Village Academy Holly Springs! These amazing kiddos (and their grown-ups!) donated non-perishable items to help fill Cupboard shelves. These beautiful watermelons are part of the haul! Thank you for showing that you’re never too young to make a big difference in your community. (Pictured are Cupboard Executive Director Sara Haggar and Miles, the son of one of the Cupboard's amazing volunteers, who attends Oak Village Academy.) | | Thanks to our friends at Goodwill Industries of Eastern NC, the Cupboard received an extra 540 pounds of protein to share with local families in need. Delicious chicken sausage headed out to dinner tables last month! | | Many thanks to the Forest Springs neighborhood! Check out the haul from their fourth annual food drive! We are so grateful. | | Shoutout to Bell Partners and the amazing team at The Villages at Pecan Grove - where resort-style living meets real community impact! They regularly rally their residents to drop off non-perishable donations at the leasing office, then deliver the goods straight to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Talk about curb appeal and compassion! | | | |
Grace Church of Cary CHEEZED the day! They recently rolled in with food drive donations - and yes, that is a jumbo box of Cheez-Its in the mix!
We’re so grateful for their generosity and commitment to helping our neighbors in need.

Cornerstone Building Brands is at it again! This incredible crew isn’t new to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard... they regularly dig in (literally in the garden), tackle fix-it projects, and host food drives to support our amazing clients. Last month, they donated $1,000 to help purchase milk and eggs for 200 families.
Thank you, Cornerstone Builders for showing up again and again! You’re helping us build a stronger, nourished community - one generous act at a time.
(Holly Springs Food Cupboard Executive Director Sara Haggar is pictured with Cornerstone Builders' Shanna Kane.)
| | Big thanks to local artist Andrea Wilson who hosted a beautiful art show at Triangle Wine Company and chose to turn creativity into compassion. One of her pieces sold during the event, and instead of pocketing the profit, she donated the proceeds to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard! Extra gratitude to Phil Woods for purchasing the piece and supporting both local art and local families. | | | A huge thank you to the Distefano family for rolling up with so many bags of food donations, we had to grab a wagon just to haul them all in! | | | A huge thank you to the brand new, locally owned Benjamin Franklin Plumbing here in Holly Springs! At their grand opening and ribbon cutting last month, they didn’t just launch a business - they launched a wave of generosity! Invited guests were challenged to bring non-perishable food donations, and they showed up with a whole truckload for the Food Cupboard! We’re so grateful for businesses that build community while they build their brand. Welcome to Holly Springs, Ben Franklin Plumbing - we’re glad you’re here! | | |
Big thanks to the Knights of Columbus - Council 12119 in Fuquay-Varina for organizing their second food drive this year and, once again, choosing to share food donations, a gift card, and cash donation toward future purchases of food.
They generously split the proceeds between the Holly Springs Food Cupboard and the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry, proving once again that compassion has no borders. We’re so grateful for your continued support and partnership! Together, we’re feeding families and building stronger communities.
| | We’d love your helping hands in the Holy Springs Food Cupboard Community Garden! Whether you’ve got a green thumb or just love being outdoors, come dig in the dirt, plant some veggies, and connect with your neighbors. | | |
Interested in volunteering in the garden? Both individuals and families are invited on Open Work Days, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting for a couple of hours on. No need to bring any tools - just gloves and maybe water.

| | Volunteers planted onions last month. The onions will sleep through the winter and be ready for harvest next May! Thank you to our garden volunteers, who work their magic so our clients always have fresh, homegrown produce to take home. | | In our garden, we love growing veggies that surprise the taste buds and the eyes! Shown here is the Ping Tung Asian eggplant, which grows quickly, slices up like a dream, and roasts to tender perfection. This little twist on a classic veggie brings something fresh to the table for Food Cupboard clients! | | | Incredible volunteers like this amazing mother–daughter crew from the National Charity League, Inc., Carolina Lily Chapter spent two hours in the rain harvesting vegetables and tackling garden projects at the Food Cupboard. The Lily Chapter has been a consistent, committed supporter since 2016 - Mothers and daughters serving together! We’re so grateful for their time, teamwork, and muddy boots! | | | Here’s just a "taste" of what late August looked like in our Cupboard garden - overflowing with fresh veggies grown with love by our amazing volunteers. Every harvest means more healthy, beautiful food for our clients’ tables. And honestly? We think it looks as good as it tastes! | | Thales Academy Apex National Honor Society students spent a morning of hard work in the Cupboard garden last month. They put in row-after-row of spinach, beet, turnip, and carrot seeds. The harvest is anticipated in mid-October and into next spring. Thank you! | | Getting Help & Helping Out | | |
