Join us on our outdoor plaza for this annual event. We have many animal rescue and support groups attending. Adopt an animal and receive free admissions for a family of four to the museum to be used at a later date.

Mountain Arts Festival this Weekend in Woodland Park
Mountain Artists
Support Historical Society at Arts Festival 
 
Historical society Ute Pass Historical Society Food Booth will be at the annual Mountain Arts Festival Saturday and Sunday. UPHS' booth is behind the Cultural Center.  A brat, hamburger or cheeseburger plate costs $6. A hot dog plate is $5. Plates include your choice of chips and drink. Have a yummy meal, and help support UPHS!  See ya there!

Weekly Programs at the Florissant Fossil Beds
 
Yoga Hikes , Mondays, 9:15 am - 10:30 pm. Join a certified yoga instructor and a Park Ranger for a 1 hour and 30 minutes, 1 mile yoga hike. This will be a hike interspersed with standing yoga poses. This program is geared for beginner to intermediate yoga enthusiasts.  Meet at the visitor center.

Fossil Demonstration Excavation Site,
Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Meet geologist, Dr. Bob Carnein at the demonstration excavation site and see the fossil beds in situ and learn about how excavations are conducted. This site is located off the Petrified Forest Loop approximately 1 mile round trip from the visitor center.

Art in the Parks,
Thursdays, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Everyone is an artist! Drop in and join volunteer artists and other visitors to sketch and/or water color paint scenes of Florissant Fossil Beds.  Stay as long or as short as you would like anytime between 11 AM - 1:00 PM.

Florissant Fossil Beds Celebrating 50 Years 

Fossil 50 50th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, August 17, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Fee Free!)
Take part in a ceremony with keynote speakers, elected officials, and panel guests including people who lived here, people who fought to make a Monument, and people who worked here. Enjoy refreshments and community.

Coffee and Cake with a Park Ranger, Tuesday, August 20, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Fee Free!)
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and a piece of 50th Anniversary cake and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the bill that made Florissant Fossil Beds a National Monument. Throughout the day, a variety of rangers, interns, volunteers, and former staff will be serving up coffee, tea, and cake. This drop in opportunity offers a chance to learn about the different people and jobs that are involved in operating Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. You will also have an opportunity to sign the 50th Anniversary Card.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is working on a resurfacing overlay project along US 24, from 8th Street to west of Manitou Springs (mile marker 296 to 304).
 
Day work for the week of August 4 :
  • Sunday, August 4 - Saturday, August 10, daily, 5 a.m. - 8 p.m., right turn lane restrictions at US 24 and 21st Street, eastbound and westbound for intersection re-building
  • Two through lanes in each direction, eastbound and westbound will be maintained open
  • Click for a MAP of the work at the intersection of US 24 and 21st Street
Overnight work for the week of August 4 at the Intersection of US 24 and 21st Street:
  • Sunday, August 4 through Thursday, August 8, overnight, 8 p.m. - 5 a.m., eastbound and westbound, alternating single lane closures at mile marker 302
  • One lane each direction will be maintained open in the work zone
  • Work is for intersection rebuilding
Overnight work for the week of August 4, US 24 from west of Serpentine Drive to the west end of the project:
  • Sunday, August 4, through Thursday, August 8, overnight, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m., westbound on-ramp closure at Manitou Avenue and US 24. Detour in place
  • Work includes milling and bridge deck rehabilitation
