How Will Census 2020 Data Fuel Our Community's Success

Census * The 2020 Census will inform tax policies, planning and funding for roads, schools and hospitals, and the redrawing of boundaries * Full Census 2020 participation in Colorado will direct more than $8 billion in federal funding into the state * Full Census 2020 participation may result in another Congressional seat in Washington.
LET'S GET COUNTED!
Bullying is a Killer

Bullying is the leading cause of teenage suicide in our state. Teller County is not immune to this problem; unfortunately, human trafficking is also a problem. The Colorado Phoenix Project assists the vulnerable through physical and mental strength programs. However, help is needed now. You can help prevent bullying by supporting the mentoring of vulnerable children in our community. Click HERE to learn more and contribute to The Colorado Phoenix Project, a non profit program.

Hey mama,

Healing Spot Are you listening to what your body's telling you? I highly encourage you to start doing so. Because it'll tell you EXACTLY where it needs your attention and where it needs some care. If you simply LISTEN to it. And take the time to TAKE CARE of YOURSELF. Here I'm giving you very powerful TOOLS for self-care: 20 min Self-care Routine. Do this preventatively to release the fascial tissue so that it glides and moves like it's intended to. Research shows that holding releases for 5 minutes or longer boosts the immune system response. Give it a try, allowing your body to soften and release, barrier upon barrier.

Stay Well and Healthy,
Justine

Safer At Home Recreation Info

The weather has turned warm - the Governor issued a new "Safer at Home" order and the question being asked most often for recreation purposes here - what is open or closed in your area?

We reached out to the Pike National Forest Rangers and the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company who serves as the Concessionaire for Rampart Reservoir and Manitou Lake and several campgrounds.

Our question - Are you Open?

The answer for Rampart Reservoir and Campground, Manitou Lake and Picnic Grounds and the following Campgrounds - Painted Rocks, Colorado, South Meadows, Red Rocks and Crags is NO - WE ARE NOT OPEN! NO FISHING, HIKING OR CAMPING ALLOWED! They tell us they are CLOSED through June 1st. They assured us they would let us know if something changes before that date.

The Rangers tell us the Pike National Forest is OPEN, but they are on a Burn Ban - just as Teller County is currently on a Burn Restriction.

Please respect the rules established by these entities.

Mueller State Park is OPEN. Campgrounds, Cabins and the Visitor Center is CLOSED. Trails are OPEN for Hiking, but the 6 foot social distancing is requested. You can purchase a pass to enter at the front entrance.

Florissant Fossil Beds are OPEN. Visitor Center and facilities are CLOSED.

Eleven Mile State Park . Park Office is CLOSED. Fishing and Hiking are OPEN at the Park. Camping is CLOSED. Boating for Spinney will OPEN on the 29th of April and Boating for Eleven Mile will OPEN on the 30th.

We will try to let you know of changes if they occur.

Colorado driver licenses, ID cards design refresh makes them easier to read

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will roll out a design update for the credentials it currently issues in early May.  The design update reorganizes the information, which allows for more space and a slightly larger font. All of the information on current Colorado driver licenses, ID cards and instruction permits except "Hair Color," "Weight" and "Previous Type" are on the new cards' frontside. Previous Type, which was moved to the backside, referred to the credential holder's previous license type such as Adult, Minor, Temporary, etc ... "Hair Color" and "Weight" were removed because they can change drastically during renewal cycles, which range from 3 to 5 years.

The design refresh is part of the DMV's continued efforts to better serve all Coloradans, especially first responders and retailers. The DMV hosted a focus group of law enforcement professionals from throughout the state in mid-2018, and this update is based on their feedback.

"We wanted to help those, such as law enforcement officers, be able to better read our credentials in less-than-ideal environments like during a nighttime traffic stop or a retailer, who's checking a customer's age to ensure they are indeed old enough to buy that Colorado Lottery ticket or watch that R rated movie," DMV Senior Director Mike Dixon said. "It's our hope that this change will make their jobs protecting Coloradans and safeguarding our youth a little easier."

In early May, first responders and retailers will start to see these new credentials and should be aware that these credentials are not fake. The DMV encourages stakeholders to use their current precautions when inspecting a Colorado-issued credential.

In addition to being easier to read, the design update will make it harder for fraudsters to create fake credentials by forcing them to adjust the processes they use to create fake IDs. The DMV takes safeguarding Coloradans' personal information seriously; and this proactive measure combined with first responders' and stakeholders' diligence will help keep fraudsters on their heels.

Other than adjusting the layout and font size to make state-issued credentials easier to read, the overall design will remain largely the same.

Current cards will remain valid through their expiration date and fees for DMV-issued credentials will not change as a result of this design update. Credentials issued under the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act (CO-RCSA) will still contain a black box that states "Not Valid For Federal Identification, Voting or Public Benefit Purposes".

Please visit Colorado.gov/DMV for more information.
