A lot of people think that you get old and then you get stiff. It's actually the other way round... First you get stiff - then you get OLD.
Right now a lot of people are getting rapidly older faster simply because of how inactive they are. Being inactive also increases things like back, hip and neck pain and once you get that, it's even more likely that you feel stiff and older than you would like. If any of these problems are happening to you - the worst thing you can do is NOTHING. Rest often just stops the pain but it doesn't fix the underlying problem and often creates issues elsewhere. Property Appeals Now Open
The 2020 real property appeals began May 1. Real property values in Colorado are determined based on a two-year appraisal cycle and per C.R.S. (Colorado Statutes) 39-1-104 (10.2)(d), 2020 values will reflect the real estate market in Teller County on June 30th. 2018. Property owners will only receive a notice of value if their property value changes due to changes to the legal description or configuration of the property, for new construction or an addition or remodel of the property, or if the property classification is changed, based on how the property was being used on January 1, 2020.
Colorado law specifies that 2020 real property values be based on sales and market data prior to July 1, 2018. The Assessor does not have the ability to recognize effects on property values due to the current pandemic crisis. The market and economic impact to property values due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be considered during the reappraisal conducted in 2021. Real property values for 2021 will be based on sales and market data prior to June 30, 2020.
County Assessors in the state recognize the impact the COVID 19 pandemic has had on the Colorado economy this year; however, assessors do not have the authority to adjust the current (2020) market value. The Colorado Assessor's Association is currently working with Colorado public officials to help find a way to address these issues. The Assessor's office urges you to contact your local state representatives regarding the COVID 19 pandemic.
If you disagree with the value of your notice, we encourage you to fill out and mail in the blank protest form located on our website or fill out the online version which will be available May 1, 2020 HERE. At this time, our building is not open to the public; however, you may set up a telephone appointment with an appraiser to discuss the value of your property by calling 719.689.2941.

Maybe you have seen the video of Hayden, the 12-year-old boy that committed suicide a few weeks ago. Hayden showed no signs of depression or anxiety. With the schools being closed and no outlet to expend his energy his parents believe the COVID-19 and mandatory isolation eventually contributed to his untimely death. This is very close to my heart as my son attempted to commit suicide just 2 years ago. We were fortunate and he is still with us today. I wish I had this information sooner. Learning how to connect and communicate with my children, I believe would have saved a lot of pain and heartache.
This presentation is free and takes about 30-45 minutes- this is not focused on suicide prevention, but understanding and connecting to your child/children

Gazette Committed to Matching Up to $1M in Advertising
The Gazette is committed to locally owned and operated businesses in the Pikes Peak Region, and is partnering with local businesses to deliver their message to the people of our community both in good times and in challenging times. While COVID-19 has created business obstacles for all of us, the ability of local businesses to market to their customers remains essential to their sustainability and recovery.
This program is designed to help our local business community double the impact of their marketing through a matching grant.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- We will provide up to $1,000,000 of matching advertising credits. Grant credits can be used toward print or digital advertising in your local Gazette and Gazette.com news products.*
- Open to locally owned and operated businesses impacted by the coronavirus.** Applications must be submitted online.
- Grants are available for a minimum of $250 and a maximum of $10,000 of matching advertising each month in May and June.
- Grants will be awarded in May and June. The matching grant must be used within the month it is granted.

 Tonight we remember the Coloradans who have died due to COVID-19 and stand with those still fighting by wearing a mask, turning building lights red, and observing a minute of silence at 7:00 pm. Share if you plan on joining.

Library Curbside Delivery Service During COVID-19 Crisis

 Curbside delivery will be available during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Curbside services will end if local, state, or federal government agencies issue health-related orders that require us to stop for safety purposes.
Quick Facts:
- Curbside Delivery is available by appointment only.
- Our buildings remain closed until further notice.
- We are unable to get materials from other libraries at this time.
- Library materials may be returned to the outdoor drop boxes at either library.
Basic Steps for RLD Curbside Delivery Service:

Log in to your account at https://rampart.marmot.org and select your items. Please note that materials showing On Shelf are most likely to be available to fulfill your hold. You may call for assistance, but expect longer wait times:

Wait for confirmation that your items are ready for pickup.
Our system will send hold pickup notices, but ignore these until a library staff member contacts you to schedule a pickup time. Please allow 1-3 days for contact. For everyone's safety, if you come to the library without an appointment, library staff will turn you away.

State Labor Department: More Than 31,000 Unemployment Claims Filed May 3-9
On Thursday the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) announced there were 22,483 initial regular unemployment claims filed the week ending May 9. This is compared to 28,164 the week prior (week ending May 2). This is the fourth week in a row of gradual declines in regular unemployment claims.
In addition, there were 9,125 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) initial unemployment claims (gig worker, self-employed) filed May 3 - 9. Over the past eight weeks a total of 387,975 regular unemployment initial claims have been filed and a grand total of 451,155 claims including federal PUA benefits.*

Tourism Director Letter
Dear Tourism Industry Partners,
I cannot begin to express my sorrow over the way my statement in a media interview on Wednesday was sensationalized into a falsehood that has disappointed and concerned so many valued tourism partners. I know that tourism is key to restarting the state's economic engine and the sooner we can invite travelers to visit, the sooner we support all of the businesses, large and small, that make up our industry.
To set the record straight, see below for a letter I shared yesterday with the Colorado Tourism Board, which offers a far more accurate picture of how and where I am leading the CTO. I hope it addresses your concern, and please feel free to share this with others.
Also, following the letter, please see a statement that clearly describes the CTO's plan for navigating our way to market Colorado, starting with in-state residents. Then, our goal is to extend our promotion to drive markets and ultimately to our national audiences.
Please be assured, despite what you may have seen reported in the media, that the Colorado Tourism Office remains deeply committed to supporting tourism partners and driving the restoration of the Colorado tourism economy at the earliest opportunity possible.
