Night Sky Program
Friday, June 7, Night Sky Program, 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm.   Join park staff and members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society to gaze at the dark skies above Florissant Fossil Beds in search of planets, galaxies, nebulas, and more. Meet at the visitor center.

Science Open House and Junior Ranger Day
Saturday, June 29, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm .  Learn about the ongoing research taking place at Florissant Fossil Beds including geology, paleontology, biology, hydrology, botany, astronomy and much more. Get a behind the scenes tour of different science projects.  Kids (and former kids) can earn a Junior Ranger badge by visiting the science stations. 
Weekly Programs Scheduled at Florissant Fossil Beds
 
fossil beds Yoga Hikes, Mondays, 9:00 am - 10:30 pm. Join a certified yoga instructor and a Park Ranger for a 1 hour and 30 minutes, 1 mile yoga hike. This will be a hike interspersed with standing yoga poses. This program is geared for beginner to intermediate yoga enthusiasts.  Meet at the visitor center.
 
Fossil Demonstration Excavation Site,
Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Meet geologist, Dr. Bob Carnein at the demonstration excavation site and see the fossil beds in situ and learn about how excavations are conducted. This site is located off the Petrified Forest Loop approximately 1 mile round trip from the visitor center.  
 
Art in the Parks, Thursdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.  Everyone is an artist! Drop in and join volunteer artists and other visitors to sketch and/or water color paint scenes of Florissant Fossil Beds.  Stay as long or as short as you would like anytime between 10 am - 12:00 pm.  Ask at the visitor center desk for location. Limited art supplies and seating available.  Interested artists may also bring their own supplies and portable chairs.

Guided Tours of History Park and the Downtown by Historical Society 
 
Calaboose Ute Pass Historical Society offers FREE
guided tours of History Park and the Walking Tour of downtown Woodland Park every Saturday this summer, beginning June 8th through August 31 (excluding Saturday, August 3).  
 
The 90-minute Walking Tour of Downtown Woodland Park begins at 9:30 a.m., so please arrive at the UPHS Museum Center by 9:20 a.m.  
 
The Museum Center is located at 231 E. Henrietta Avenue, next to the Woodland Park Public Library. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and a light sweater.
 
After the downtown walking tour, walk through the five buildings comprising History Park at 11 a.m. Exhibits and contents have recently been refashioned so "come again for the first time!"

Charlie Adoptable Animal Rescue Force has animal adoptions every week at Pets-Mart, at the corner of Constitution and Powers in Colorado Springs. This week AARF is offering for adoption Charlie, a year-old shepherd who loves kids and loves to play.
 
Anyone interested in supporting AARF should contact Dottie Brennan at 719.748.9091. Drivers and canine care handlers are always needed for adoption days.

  • Monday, June 3 through Thursday, June 6, overnight, 7:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. at mile marker 296.00 - 299.00
  • Work consists of tie ins, pull boxes, and manholes
  • Eastbound and westbound traffic can expect right shoulder closures and right lane closures as needed
Daytime work for the week of June 3 in Woodland Park, Manitou Springs, Cascade and Colorado Springs consists of:
  • Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7 daily, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., at mile marker 291.00 - 293.00.
  • Work consists of directional boring, tie ins, pull boxes, manholes and erosion control
  • Eastbound and westbound traffic can expect right shoulder closures and left shoulder closures as needed
