Newmont Donates to the Colorado COVID Relief Fund

Yesterday, as part of that community investment, Newmont's Cripple Creek & Victor Mine is excited to announce that Newmont has made a donation of $500,000 to the Colorado COVID Relief Fund, targeted specifically to benefit our neighbors in Teller and Fremont counties.

To ensure that the most acute community needs are being addressed, this fund is being administrated by the Mile High United Way.  For complete details regarding this donation, please read Newmont's attached press release.

Additional information about the Colorado COVID Relief Fund, including grant application instructions, can be found at HelpColoradoNow.org

Please ACT NOW as the deadline nears.
Teller County COVID-19 Testing Site Opens in Woodland Park

The Woodland Park mobile test site opened on Monday, May 4.  It is opened for any community member with  COVID-19 symptoms to be tested.

The test site follows the practices outlined by CDPHE. The viral test will let individuals know whether they currently have the COVID-19 virus. It does NOT identify anti-bodies.  NETCO's Hazmat truck serves as the decontamination unit.

Covid test site Location-the mobile site is staged in the east parking lot of the Wood-land Park Middle School. Access the entrance north of Kelleys Road on Rampart Range Road.

Open hours-Monday-Thursday 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Process-There are responders who will do a brief verbal screening. The individual will be directed to the next station where additional verbal screening will take place.  A testing kit with documentation is  prepared and secured under the windshield wiper. The individual then pulls up to the test ad-ministration station. Two medical professionals administer a nasal swab test and manage the specimen according to the CDPHE practices. The tests are picked up by CDPHE courier daily. Test results take about 48-72 hours.

Local testing site plans-to ensure access is available county-wide, there will be a mobile test unit schedule established in Divide, Cripple Creek and Victor.
COVID-19 Testing in Divide

Peak Vista is deploying its second drive-through community testing site to the Divide & Teller County public. The testing site will open on Tuesday, May 5, and reinforce state efforts to manage the spread of the virus. Here are some important things to know:
  • Visitors will be asked to fill out a demographic form prior to testing, which collects basic demographic information such as income and family size to determine if the patient qualifies for any assistance.
  • Those participants 12 years of age and older who are symptomatic (i.e. cough, shortness of breath, fever greater than 100 degrees, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste/smell) will be tested for COVID-19 and will be asked to present a form of ID and insurance card, if applicable. We will also be screening patients for a sliding fee scale discount.
  • This testing site is open to the community, and those receiving testing are not required to be a patient.
  • First responders and front-line health care workers are eligible for testing, even if they are non-symptomatic.
  • No appointment or doctor's referral is required to receive testing.
  • The COVID-19 test involves a swab of a patient's nose while staying in their car. Please note, there should be no more than two people per car.
  • Those individuals who are tested at the drive-through site will receive a phone call with their results.
  • Those receiving a test are asked to stay home and avoid public transit and public places like grocery stores until they get their results.
  • The testing site will be located at Peak Vista's Health Center at Divide, 34 Hybrook Rd S, Divide, CO 80814.
  • The first available day for testing is Tuesday, May 5 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the parking lot.
  • We will continue our drive-through services, provided testing supplies and PPE are available.
  • Based on test availability, the routine hours will be Monday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
  • Patients under the age of 12, are not eligible to receive testing at the drive-through due to risk and safety concerns. If the parents of legal guardians wish to have their child tested, they should be encouraged to call 719.687.4460.

Teller County Virtual Pro Se Clinic (VPC) Free Legal Clinic

Thursday, May 14 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Please contact the Florissant Library at 719.748.3939 to be added to the sign-up sheet.

Despite the COVID-19 closures of libraries across Colorado, the Virtual Pro Se Clinic (VPC) clinics will still be held as scheduled.   We're able to do this and keep clinic patrons safe because our volunteer attorneys already work remotely.   As a work-around, instead of clinic patrons coming in-person to your local public library (which is closed), the volunteer attorney will call each clinic patron's telephone directly, during the clinic hours, using the phone number provided.   Although VPC clinic patrons will see a slight shift in how our free legal support is delivered, they should experience no significant disruption in service.

There couldn't be a more important time to get this kind of free legal support to your community than right now.   If you have questions about unpaid rent, employment issues, end-of-life documents, custody/parenting time issues or any other Colorado civil issue, please contact the Florissant Library at 719.748.3939 to be added to the sign-up sheet.   Space is limited.
